Verizon Tiered Data to start 7/07

A tweet is not proof. We all have contracts and they can't change anything without your permission.

Phandroid: "Update: We?re hearing that you may not see any major changes including family shared data until after the 4G LTE hotspot promo ends on July 7th."

Try reading the rumors?

Big Red has their bloodsucking tools in place it would appear. Pretty pricey for the amount of data permitted. I find this line most telling:

"There is no word on what Verizon plans on doing with its current unlimited subscribers, though it’s likely the company will just force them to move to the new plans."

Good luck with "forcing" that Verizon. That constitutes a breach of contract and I'll take my business elsewhere without penalty thank you very much.

I use wi-fi at home and am at 2.6gb LTE use since 6/1this month. And this does NOT constitute "heavy use" IMHO. I could live with a 5gb cap for $30 but $50 for that plus $20 for 2gb hotspot and this really starts to add up. Like it's cheap to start with....NOT!

Considering the problems with stability on the new network and the inherent Thunderbolt issues that I'm still somewhat convinced are not HTC's problem but are caused by Verizon to start with, I'm about to rethink my loyalty to Big Red as a customer.

I think it's marvelous they are jacking prices already for a service they can barely deliver.

Hope this is valid question for this thread. I have three lines only one of which has data but am the account holder of family plan. If in fact I am forced to change plan can I leave Big Red and avoid ETF for all three lines if they break contract? Or their greedy bean counters charge me ETF on the two lines without data even if I avoid for the data line?
I hope they just leave us alone when this new data scheme of theirs goes into effect.

1) This new scheme will not force you to change plans. You will continue to get unlimited data if that is what you are on now. Only if you decide on your own to change plans should you need to satisfy the new requirements (i.e. 2GB, etc.).

2) This is not grounds for ETF waiver because they have not changed anyone's existing data plan rates.

I heard if we ever upgrade well lose our unlimited data too I hope this isn't true

if you get the discounted price and re up your contract you will lose the unlimited. because you are signing the new contract.

if you buy a phone for full price you wont

Well I hope your right but a full retail phone will hurt my wallet

It will hurt your wallet up front, but it'll save you money in the long run if you're using the higher tiered data plans. I would never upgrade my device at a discounted price if it means I would be losing my unlimited data. I could probably get by with 2 GB of data on most months, but I would be worried about going over all the time. And I would not pay $20 more per month for 5 GB just so I would have the cushion that I would only use on rare occasions. Oh well, I'm glad I locked in my plan a long time ago.

Shouldn't we ALL know by now, especially in the Thunderbolt forum of all places, not to listen to ANY date about ANYthing EVER? >.>

Just my two cents, seeing as I'm locked into my $30/month plan for another 21 months at least. :D

You signed a 2 year deal for the Thunderbolt, when you could have gotten a 1 year deal for $70 more up front? Yikes.

In 9 months we will see if the 2 year contracts were smarter though.
If Verizon changes the data plan name to something like "Advanced Data Package" (to get around the contracts) and forces everyone to change due to not supporting the older plan anymore, then the people who have locked in 12 more months of unlimited left will have gotten then better deal.

I don't consider that being such a bad thing at this point. If this is the new pricing structure, than he wouldn't of signed a new contract whether he signed a 2 year or a 1 year contract. If we're paying full price for an upgrade to keep our current plans, why would we pay the $70 up front? It will only cost more by doing it that way. (Just an example)

If you don't upgrade your phone, you will keep your current plan. If you want to upgrade and still keep your plan then you have to buy the phone out of contract.

I won't upgrade if I can't keep what I have. I will just keep my Incredible and go month to month Those tiered prices are just too high for my tastes and my use. I am not going to get charged for overages. I use my data on my phone a lot. And if I have to pay full retail for a phone, I will. I am not giving into it. I have had unlimited internet on my laptop for over 8 years and it is no longer available. I don't upgrade that as well. I still have it.
We have Cricket which has unlimited and I might very well check it out. I hate the idea of changing carriers but pricing means a lot to me . They make money on their plans no matter what they do and these new tiered plans = GREED in my opinion.

Thanks Frank. I think some of us-at least I am worried that when the contract term is up things will change whether we upgrade our phone or not. When the contract term is up what is to keep Verizon from saying if you want data you need to go into one of the new plans.
