Have an employer related discount with Verizon? You may be asked to verify your eligibility
.
We have received a couple of tips indicating that Verizon will soon be contacting customers who receive discounts on their personal accounts due to an existing relationship their employer may have with Verizon Wireless.

Based on the information we have received, beginning April 1, 2013, any subscriber who is receiving an employee discount will be contacted via email, SMS or direct mail and asked to provide proof of their continued employment, and thus their continued eligibility for the discount. Customers who do not revalidate within 60 will have the discount removed. Word has it that Verizon employees (presumably phone based and retail) will receive training for this initiative on or about March 18th.

No big deal. I work for my company still so its not a big loss. My dad may have an issue as he is under a Police discount and he is now retired. But he does work for the company I do now and the discount is higher by 2% so we may switch it now as we never had a chance.

The good news is that revalidating is pretty simple. The preferred way will be via a renewal website that Verizon will make available. If it is anything like the normal discount process it will involve use of your business email address to validate your eligibility. Customers will also be able to validate over the phone or by sending a form in the mail.

My employee discount was originally setup and verified via Verizon's website and my work e-mail address. If I'm asked to verify again, I'd venture a guess that it will probably be done the same way. I also remember at the time of signing up for the discount, the terms and conditions stated something that Verizon could contact my employer at any time to verify my employment and that my employer could see my basic account information (ex. name, phone number and voice/data plan) in order to verify my info with Verizon.

I better get the ol' printer running because I'm going to need to print out some check stubs. Lol

Meh, they left my discount from my last job on my account for over 2 years after I got laid off. Discount is better through the new company, so thats a bonus. And I moved to it anyway when I got hired here.

Up until some time last year, I was on a discount through an employer I hadn't worked for in over 10 years. For most of those years, the small company I worked for had their HR and Benefits administered by a company that offered the same VZW discount level for the companies it managed, but I never switched my employment information over to them.

My current employer also has the exact same discount with Verizon . . . but at some point my account was changed to reflect the latest. Oh well, I hope the verification happens before I leave at the end of next month :D

What happens if they catch you getting a discount for a company you don't work for anymore?

Yeah, I'm getting ready to quit next week. My discount us still being received based on the company I worked for 5 years. My current employer gets the same discount. I should probably call them and change it, and verify it this week before I leave. That should get me off the radar.
