Verizon to begin throttling video on all plans

So another words tomorrow there will be a new grandfathered unlimited plan that Verizon will target.

I definitely don't like it. I am glad I have the current / cheaper unlimited plan (compared to the others) and I get to keep at least 720P/15GB hotspot.

I'm not on unlimited, have rollover data every month, but this is clearly to shake people out of unlimited plans while getting a handle on their network traffic.

It messes with people on ALL plans (that includes people on a limited plan). As in your plan is limited to 720P as well. At least from what I have been reading on reddit / articles.

The one you're on is 22 GB/Line. It has always been that way. If you have been getting bad service it is for another reason.

I was told the wrong info yeah you're right...but they had been throttling like its nobody's business.

I love how we get a total of about 16 hours to make a decision if we want to switch.
Any one know of a breakdown of the difference between the 22Gb plans?

I'm curious what the major changes are.

I'm beyond livid. When I first signed up for the unlimited plan I was told that the throttling would be at 22 GB per line. The Verizon rep even said don't worry you won't even notice.

My hubby and I have had awful service.
And now I find out they are coming out with a different plan for 10 dollars more where its 22 GB a line...turns out the one we were on was 22 GB per account! Wait...that's not what they told me!!!! I'm so thinking of switching. They can kiss my GB.

My account uses over 300Gb/month, I almost never experience throttling. I can still achieve 50mbps download speeds.

It's possible where you live the towers are just congested and everyone is getting poor service. Verizon reducing video quality improves everyone's data speeds and performance in congested areas. It sucks they need to do it, but towers can only handle so much data.

I called and Tweeted VZWCS. Both claim this does not apply to old plans. Only applies to new plans unveiled tomorrow.

I'll check Netflix app tomorrow to see. Example Short 23.976 gives resolution during stream and so does the Test Pattern video.

Of course. This is from the company who said they didn't want heavy data users nor that their customers needed unlimited data, remember? Verizon did a clever marketing ploy releasing the "unlimited" with a data cap of 22GB. I saw this coming a mile away. They enticed customers, got them in a contract, and just like that they slowing took away the very thing they offer. It started slowing and then they constantly lied about people being throttled even though they didn't went over 22GB...oh we are just testing, no concern over here dear loyal customer. Yeah, okay. They will lose way more customers now, but like they say they don't want "those customers".

Verizon has the highest number of customers and the most congested network. Even with no throttling towers slow to a crawl for EVERYONE when too many people are on them. This is likely why they are reducing video quality, because it will improve everyone's performance.

All 4 major carriers throttle their high consumption customers when towers are busy between 22 and 32GB. There's also no contract or obligation to stay with Verizon if you aren't happy. Put a T-Mobile sim in your phone and call it a day, and realize they do the SAME thing. LoL

Why do you in usa or canada even buy phone at providers when the phones are so cheap there ? I mene here at my place the g6 costs 850$ at store... Thats why we buy them at providers but you really don't have to.. I mean when my friend told me how much iphone costs in usa i was like what the f*** here the iphone 7 costs in store like 1200$

I can't speak to Canadian users, but sounds like pricing is different in the U.S. Compared to where you are. Here, where you get your phone doesn't always automatically dictate if it's more or less expensive. For example, when the LG V20 debuted, the Verizon version was the cheapest one out there. Even the unlocked, non-carrier version was more expensive. There's also other considerations like having certain network compatibilities in a carrier specific version that an unlocked version may not have.

Well to be fair it is a congestion cap .. If no congestion then no issues. All carriers have this from AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint. The limit varies per carrier but there is some limit on each.

This is true. Sometimes Verizon has the best prices on phone when the debut -- Sometimes you can get a better deal from somewhere such as Bestbuy.

Is it me or did the HD plan raise by $5 from the original unlimited that was offered? I don’t pay for Unlimited right now but their pricing says $90 now. This seems to include Line Access fee (guess they did away with that) but that’s $85 after $5 auto pay. Wasn’t it $80?

Edit: Yes, they did. I’m not against 720p on mobile data because the screen is too small to take advantage of 1080p. But really, I would not do the dvd quality plan nor is raising the price for 720p a good consumer move. But that’s the mobile industry for you... let’s see how long til T-Mobile goes nuts.

I left Comcast a month ago which is about when they began advertising Xfinity Mobile. True Fiber with no data caps. Love it.
