Verizon to release Major Software Update

It looks like there is a quick toggle for it as well in the notifications bar.

Has anyone found how to turn the multi-window app off, other than manually closing it?

Okay, never mind. Had tried before and it didn't work, but long pressing the back button turns it off.

Anyone know if I update, will I lose ROOT? I'm rooted, but still 100% stock.
You don't say if you're using a custom recovery. I'm using TWRP and SuperSU and the update failed (as expected)uploadfromtaptalk1369851970507.jpgSent from my rooted, debloated, deodexed Sinclair ZX-80 running CM -0.001 using Tapatalk 2

My phone is rooted but no custom ROM. The update seemed to go smoothly but after it rebooted and "optimized" all the apps I got a message that the update was unsuccessful and that no changes were made. Aside from the multi-window feature, I don't know if any of the other changes matter much to me.

On the other hand, when I look at the build number on "About Phone" it shows the JZ054K.I535VRBMD3 listed in the update... And there are some new apps in the drawer. BUT I seem to have lost ROOT.

Cute...now it shows both my 4G and WiFi connected at the same time. I wonder if this is going to zap me on my data use. I had to shut OFF mobile data, and when I reenabled it, it came back on for just a second, then dropped off. It had been running the entire time after the first boot with the little upstream and downstream arrows lighting up on both wifi and 4G. Maybe a fluke?

Disable the app "caller name id" will fix the wifi/4G icon issue.

anyone know how to do this if we have root and a custom recovery, such as CWM? One or two people on XDA reported it was successful, the rest are having problems

Congrats on the update everyone! For those that like to multitask, you're gonna love Multi Window. If you want a list of apps that are compatible with it & some quick tips on how to use it, click on the link in my signature. Enjoy!

How do you get apps to load that are not in the "edit" window?

If an app doesn't show in either the edit window or the Multi Window panel, then it's not automatically compatible. There are 2 ways to "make" apps show - root your phone (this can enable all installed apps to show) or modify the app yourself.

I'd like to know as well.. in the past Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper has saved me from the usual updates. Waiting on confirmation before pulling the trigger

If you are rooted, 1 of 4 things will happen:

1. The update will work (if you're running stock and haven't installed custom recovery), but you'll lose root

2. The update will attempt to install, but fail (probably because you have custom recovery installed)

3. The update will attempt to install and brick your device (unlikely, but worth putting here)

4. The update won't be available for download/install (custom ROM, or an update blocker has been applied)

Honestly, option #4 is optimal. If you are rooted and want the update, just wait for someone to post a rooted ROM version over on XDA, and install that manually.

If you have root and custom recovery, just wait for one of the devs to post a rooted ROM that can be flashed. I wouldn't mess with trying to install the update via "official" channels.

I don't see one now, but I'm willing to bet one will pop-up over here soon: Verizon Galaxy S3 Android Development - xda-developers

Either that, or a modified image that can be installed via ODIN (though I'd still wait for a ROM version to flash in recovery).

Having rooted my phone and using CleanROM 6r2, I'm waiting for the next version of CleanROM that will incorporate this update. They're already talking about this update over on XDA Developers forum, the thread for CleanROM.

I know exactly what would happen if I tried to take the update right now, without going back to rooted stock first, "Settings" would fail *smile*. And since I've been using a nice, close-to-stock, debloated ROM, I'm spoiled now. So I'll just wait *smile*.

yeah i saw that too, i figured i'll just wait it out. I need to unlock my bootloader in the meantime though. Maybe i will just wait for CleanROM instead...

Anyone seeing wifi and 4g lte on the status bar? It used to be one or the other. Makes me wonder if we will see some data usage when we are on wifi.
