This may have been answered but I didn't read every reply. I'm still on an Unlimited plan. I've been buying my phones on eBay, at Best Buy, etc to keep my plan. I assume I can continue to do that even with these changes? Thanks.

Apparently alot of news wires have reported from the AP article.

It certainly sounds legit but it goes contrary to headlines that says 2yr Contracts are eliminated.

Well, yeah. The headlines say two-year contracts are eliminated, but the actual stories continue with "...for new customers".

Welp. I decided to count the bird in the hand. Used my upgrade to get an LG G4 two days ago from Best Buy for $99. Unlimited still in check for another 2 years...

Kinda wanted to wait and see what the Note 5 offered, but as it is I like the G4 so far, and the fact that I have it rooted with free tethering on my unlimited plan is even sweeter!

Yup from Verizon, but I don't have it in writing and I don't trust them anyway so I went ahead and burned my upgrade anyway just to be safe

Well, it's the 13th and two-year contracts and pricing for phones are wiped from Verizon's website.

When I saw that, I decided to call and inquire as to how much it'd be for me to renew my contract when it expires on the 29th. Though it did take the rep a while to locate the info in the system, and she did try to persuade me to go with a device payment plan, she said I'd still be able to renew my contract and have two-year discount pricing on the phone I wanted (an iPhone 6 Plus 128GB). She quoted me $499 for the phone, which is the same price it was for two-year contract renewal when the pricing was still listed on the website.

Looking good so far...

ONLY device payment plans get that--not everyone. The fine print means a device payment plan is required.

Correct. As I said everyone gets a discount.... that means contracts and device-pricing. Not everyone reading this thread may have the same bent as you. Some might want device pricing but not like the idea of losing the contract-discount.

One size does not fit all.

As worded, it appeared you were saying that everyone would be getting the particular discount advertised on the flyer.

Okay, I spoke to a higher level rep via chat yesterday, and she told me that once my contract is up, I wouldn't be able to renew it. If I wanted to upgrade, I'd have to move to one of the new plans.

HOWEVER, I just got off the phone with a rep, and she told me that they had a meeting about the new plans yesterday. She said that if I'm on a contract now, I'm grandfathered in and am able to renew the contract and get a subsidized phone on the same plan I have now. It's just that if I want to change plans, I'll no longer be offered a contract. I called again and asked another rep who confirmed it.

So, as of now, it looks like if you're currently on a contract and want to continue on that same contract, you can do so.

I was just in touch with my rep at Costco. I have two unlimited lines and two dumb on old family share plan and that we should still be able to get subsidized phones and stay on contract (no payment plan)

I thought if you did a dumphone upgrade, and moved the phone to your unlimited line, you still got stuck with the 30 dollar data plan on the dumphone line?

If you order it online and do not active the SIM card that came with it and just put the sim from your udl you won't be charged.

Maybe for you it is. But not for me. I'm looking to get a 128GB iPhone 6s Plus. Here's what it will look like for me:

contract pricing keeping the same plan I have now
cost up front for the phone (assuming it is priced the same as the 6 Plus): $499.00
$60 loyalty plan (2GB data, unlimited talk and text) X 24 = $1440
two year cost = $1949.99

keeping the same plan but having to pay full retail for the phone
phone: $39.58 X 24 = $949.92
loyalty plan: $60 X 24 = $1440
two year cost = $2389.92

if I were to switch to the medium size data bucket, which is what I would need, and pay full retail for the phone
phone: $39.58 X 24 = $949.92
medium data bucket plan ($45) + access fee ($20): $65 X 24 = $1560
two year cost = $2509.92

My two-year cost will go up a minimum of $439.93--and that doesn't include taxes and additional fees. I don't care if my monthly bill goes down after two years because I won't be keeping a phone for longer than two years.

I'm glad I'm not the only iPhone convert trolling the forums. I loved my 1st gen Moto X but there was not a high end Android device that would fit in my hand. After cracking mine, dealing with Moto support was torture, so I made the switch and haven't been sorry at all.

It's funny how complicated the pricing is such that many different people have totally different advantages and disadvantages with pricing changes and grandfathered plans/contracts. It sounds like you have a pretty sweet deal and I can't blame you for trying to keep it.

Oh yes. What's great about my having done the math is that I realized since my overage fee is only $10/1GB, I can actually use up to three GB of data for all 24 months of my plan, and it's STILL cheaper than if I have to make phone payments or buy the phone outright.

That's why when Verizon reps ask me how my experience is with Verizon, I always tell them, "Great. But the day I lose this plan is the day I leave Verizon."
