Thess articles say the phone will support wifi calling on these carriers, but it's silent on whether it will be supported on a Google Store acquired version.
My experience with Samsung is the HD calling works regardless, but WiFi calling only works on the specific VZW branded device.
I could be mistaken, but I think pretty much all phones offered by Verizon now support it. Pretty sure they all now support VZW's "HD Calling" which if enabled will use VoLTE, or WiFi if currently connected to a hotspot.
It hasn't been 100% confirmed yet. We might have to wait for someone with a review unit on Verizon to answer. But what if you buy directly from Google? Will HD calling still work, or do you have to buy verizon version for that?

T-Mobile isn't selling the Pixel.
Android Central just posted a story saying no HD Voice or Wifi Calling on verizon if you buy from the Google store. Not sure how they know that though.
5x, 6p, moto x pure edition, they all work with Volte when bought outside Verizon. But no wifi calling. This was true for many other phones. Verizon locks this feature to their "whitelisted" phones based upon IMEI numbers. Any phone not sold by Verizon is automatically locked out. AT&T also does something similar for VoLTE and HD Voice though they claim that "once this has been fully deployed" they will open it up to BYOD phones.
It's a dice toss. The Blackberry Priv got it's last update in the beginning of June. And that contained the April Google security patches. That's 6 months behind and counting. Every other carrier is up-to-date.Verizon it is then. WiFi calling is a must. I doubt the software delays will be catastrophic. One month tops is my guess.

That's why I'm curious how AC confirmed this news.
