Recently Verizon announced XLTE, which supposed to improve bandwidth (at least double) in high traffic areas.

http://www.droid-life.com/2014/05/19/verizon-announces-xlte/

There is a large number of cities where the service is being rolled out: http://www.droid-life.com/2014/05/19/verizon-xlte-cities/

However, I did not noticed any improvement on my Note 3 with Kit Kat. In fact after the Kit Kat update I notice that In areas where I used to have 4 bars, I not have 2 or 1 bar. Sometime even with 1 bar I get message "No cell signal available".

Do I need to do anything to improve the service?

Other users have reported service issues when upgrading to KK. Try a factory reset. This has helped a lot of users.

OTA update?

"Size does matter!"

The update in December 2013 enabled aws, so the note 3 has been xlte compatible since then.

XLTE is certainly active in select cell sites in Los Angeles. When you are outdoors do you still have the issue? Are you within Verizon's coverage area based on their coverage map?

Perhaps the update didn't take well. If a factory data reset doesn't fix it, then contact Verizon.

Btw, these are speed tests that I get in Los Angeles at work. I work in a high rise among multiple high rises.

I am within Verizon coverage. Tried it indoors and outdoors.

These are the speeds I got after factory reset. Only tried couple of times so far.

You might not be on an xlte tower. But regardless, if you have a dropped signal outdoors and within coverage map then contact Verizon.

I live in the San Fernando Valley and so far I am not seeing any access to XLTE.

1. Anyone know if unlimited data plans will also work with XLTE? Will I be able to use my unlimited data with it?

Thanks.

In many places (like where I am in Colorado) the towers that are on Band 4 are further away than the 700 MHz towers where the original LTE is. Thus lower signal levels, and higher battery drain. In addition, the frequencies in the aws band (2100 MHz) don't penetrate building walls, green leaves on trees and so forth nearly as well as the 700MHz band does.

In a suburb of Cleveland, I did get XLTE reception in a location outside a shopping mall, where there are several phone providers and obviously one of the special cell towers. I was getting about 50 mb/sec speeds. Elsewhere, I haven't been able to get better than 15 mb/sec even a 4 bar signal. It looks like the roll-out is happening, but happening in a very spotty fashion even in the cities that is supposed to be getting the service, like LA and Cleveland.
