Verizon's Galaxy S3 vs G-Nexus(which is better?) [HD]

The Nexii lines will ALWAYS be ahead via software and developer support. Being a buy and hold through value consumer that still loves to have cutting edge technology (in this case via software and dev support) there's no better option than the Nexus lines. The next Nexus with be ahead of ABC android phones in both hardware (at least on par) and software. Then some months down the line there wil be better hardware options but the Nexus will still have the latest software and dev support. That cycle will always continue with Android. The very fact the gnex is still a top tier phone to compared to and reckoned with nearly 9 months after its release in today's tech world is testiment to that. Best tech purchase I've made in ages. Granted, mine has been 100% proper from launch day and I understand that others haven't had the same fantastic experience. S3 and others are certainly awesome devices, but I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy the Nexus line from here on out. Never had a phone that felt new this late in the game. Obviously, I believe software > hardware.

I've owned both phones and comparing them both stock the GS3 blows the Gnex out of the water in everyway possible. There was so much lag on the Gnex that it was an unacceptable and even when i got great speeds on lte or wi-fi the phone was just slow. I know that the Gnex is considered a developers phone but it's my opinion that you shouldn't have to root and install custom or leaked roms just to get the phone to work properly. I did like the look and feel of the phone especially the curved glass screen and size but the GS3 is just a beast with 2 gbs of ram and the S4 processor. If I had endless money I'd buy a nexus from the play store and use a straight talk or t-mobile sim but the other issue was battery life even without using lte. For $350 the unlocked version of the gnex that gets updates direct from google is a steal. However the GS3 is the best phone on the market hands down and even with all of the hatred towards pentile displays I read and have witnessed first hand that Sammy upped the quality of the screen on the GS3 even though they are both considered Super amoled hd, either way both phones have amazing screens. I loved vanilla ics 2 but t-wiz over ics is perfect with the exception of making folders but that can be solved by using a launcher. The last thing is the cameras, the Gnex's camera wasn't bas because it was 5mp it was a horrible image sensor and taking pics was only an option in daylight where the GS3 uses the same sensor that's used in the iphone 4s and as much as i hate to admit it the iphones camera was the best on the market before the launch of the S3 and one x. Burst mode and best shot also help make the camera a joy to use in any condition. Sammy hit this one out of the park and it's a true flagship device not only for Sammy but for android as a whole.

The fixed navigation bar taking up space and being easy to touch by accident when gaming is IMO, a big negative for the Gnex.

What bar ? :p
If you mean the Google search bar you can remove that with Nova launcher and I dont think you even have to be rooted to do so,and use the real estate you gained for something else. I think you can disable it as well but not sure if you can use the extra space or not .

I have no lag on my nexus nor did I have to root and install custom or leaked roms to make it work properly .:)

Whaaaaat , lol . What issues are you having with the network on your nexus ? I have zero issues .

The verizon branded nexus for me had the worst battery life of any phone. Random reboots, horrible data connectivity and after the 4.0.4 update I lost consistent screen responsiveness on 3 different replacements. I went through 6 of them total and i never rooted because every replacement i received from verizon had a bad screen in one way or another. I loved the phone and still do but it just didn't ever work right for me. It's a shame that Verizon neglected the phone and still continues to do so but for the root/dev community it's an awesome phone minus the camera.

I think he's talking about the navigation soft keys. Some people love them, some hate them. Having not had a phone that used them, I cannot say which I prefer. I think I would lean toward having separate buttons off the screen, like the S3 has.

OK ya my bad .The soft keys on the navigation bar do waste some of the screen.I can understand that point. It does make a noticeable difference when I switch from my Nexus to S3 as far as viewable screen size

Sorry you had bad luck I haven't had any of the issues you have had.I am on my original Nexus I got last Dec.15th
I will say battery life on the S3 is better then the Nexus.
Average battery life for me on Nexus is between 16 to 18 hrs , anything over 12 hrs on battery life works for me.

Right on I'm glad that some people received fully functional units. I blame Verizon as I don't think that their refurbs truly go through the 100 point checklist that they claim the devices have to pass. Like i said I loved the phone and vanilla ics but I guess I just had horrible luck. There were massive complaints from a lot of users but I've also read quite a few Vzw Gnex owners who had no issues whatsoever.

You can create folders on the s3, just hit the menu button an tap "create folder".

I just received my S3 after using a GNEX for the past 6 months. Currently was on JB with it.

I must say as far as lag, the GNEX was very smooth with ICS and JB. At times it even seems smoother then the S3 and it is definitely smoother then the One X and Sense.

The battery life and the crappy camera was some of the major reason I left the GNEX, besides all the signal issues it had. I also was not a fan of the on screen buttons. It is not like it made the device smaller. There is still room on the GNEX to add buttons there so why would you want to waste the screen real estate for buttons. It was not as bad if you were running a custom Rom and shrunk the buttons down but the stock size of them is ridiculous!

I like having a 4.8" screen and knowing all that screen will be for what I am doing on it. Hope in the future all the manufacturers do not go with on screen buttons unless they can come up with a way to use them more efficiently without killing your screen space. It might work on tablets, but keep it away from phones!
