Each new Samsung Galaxy Note I get has less flexibility when it comes to notification settings.

My first Note was the 4. I had the ability to set a different notification for every app, every contacts group, and even each individual contact. Now with the latest Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra i can't even distinguish the difference between a text message and an email, let alone who i am receiving a text from. This is very annoying to me. While at work I don't have time to look at my phone every time that a random app sends a notification but I need to respond to certain people immediately. With all the notification sounds the same, I am looking at my phone constantly.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Are there any solutions?

Usually each app has notification settings in the the apps settings to do that

Yes they do usually. I think the problem may be that the apps are not keeping up. It would help if I could just save a specific message notification for each contact. I realized that my Gmail account only gives me a tag and no sound.

Looks interesting but I really need a sound. I work with my phone in my pocket and bluetooth in my ear.

Example; If a Yahoo or Gmail message comes in I just ignore it until I get a few minutes but if a MyCTFODepot email comes in i respond ASAP.
Likewise if my wife texts me, it's the same tone as any of my friends. You get the picture.

Message notifications can be changed for individual contacts, go into a message conversation, hit the 3 dots top right, notification sound.
You can't just go through your contact list to add personalised tones, you have to do this through a conversation in messages.
These can also be added to with any sound, you don't just have to use samsung sounds.
I have different sounds for each of my email addresses, but as far as I know can't have a separate sound for each email contact.

It's not difficult to set different tones for different people. Many apps can have different notification tones as well. You may have to do some digging to find those though. They can be pretty well hidden within the settings of the particular app.

I can't find notification priority i had on my N10+. I have an app that shows my net download speed but it is not showing on the home screen because I can't make it high priority anymore.

Every single app can have its own notification sound (if the app allows it). The only app that I have that doesn't, is Google Duo which is very annoying.

It's not hard to set individual ring tones for individual or application. For someone, you care about you simply go into their profile click message, and change tone to your desire. And each app are also the same.

I have a folder saved to my SD card that I carry over to every new device, and it has custom notifications and sounds. I even have old BlackBerry notification sounds as well as other custom sounds that I can assign as alerts and ring tones. Not sure why you aren't able to do the same. The only minor annoyance with it all, is that I have to manually copy the custom sound I want, to the local storage for Notifications.

Yeah I do that also lol, there was a guy I used to work with who would always send me jokes in a text message, I got so bored with his jokes that I assigned a tone to his name so that I never even bothered taking the phone out of my pocket!

I was able to set up a different sounds for all my incoming texts and then separate sounds for a couple of special people (and even silence a couple of multiperson threads). Are you using something besides the stock text messaging app? Also, it's easy to set up different sounds for the email, too, by account. Again I'm using stock. If you're using other 3rd party apps, it sounds like they may not be the ones for you. If you are against using the built in options for a particular reason, you may want to keep digging until you find the third party ones with sound options.

Hi Jbaggs90,

i saw your post and have had the same problem. Here's where I got my answer from - https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5...se-different-sound-notifications/td-p/3104815. It is really complicated now, you have to go into each App through the phone, not via each App, it's crazy. This worked for me and I know nothing about tech. Good luck.

You can in each app , some apps don't but majority do, long press the app>tap info>notification >notification category tap>list of sub menu then tap each one , I'll leave a example on My Note20U on groupme Screenshot_20220116-195244_Settings.jpg
