Very impressive battery life so far.

Re: Great Battery life So far, impressive

Clevin you don't own a Nexus 5 and you have a Samsung Note 3. What is your point since the Op likes the Nexus 5 battery life over his old Samsung GS3 that battery could be weaker after a few years of use? Guess what I am happy with my N5's phone battery life.

I just plugged in my N5 today to charge and it was still at 77% from yesterday with light use on voice calls, texting and at least 90 minutes of internet screen time at a football game.
Your screen must be at 0% brightness to get that kind of battery. If that was true you'd be able to get almost 6 hours of screen time. I don't see that happening on a stock N5. Post screenshots if you manage to do that

Re: Great Battery life So far, impressive

My battery life is hit or miss.. During the work week with a horrible signal at work my battery life STINKS, on the weekends while out and about I can almost go a day and a half before it drops dead when I get a great signal and better coverage.. But it's pretty much about the same as the GS3 it replaced... Weak signal even with little to no usage the battery dies off fast... at home on WiFi most of the day and out and about shopping and doing my regular running around I take it off at 9 am and by 9 pm it's still 30 - 40% remaining... (but I will say I am not a HEAVY user.. Check Google+, Twitter, send out a bunch of text messages, very little phone use, internet searches and check up on sport scores throughout the day.. No gaming at all)

Yes because you're on Sprint. The phone is constantly trying to pick up a decent signal from Sprint so that's what's draining battery power.

I got that on WiFi. I did post screenshots in another thread. :)

Totally agree (with the OP). The N5 has the best battery of the last 5 Android phones I've owned by far.

Re: Great Battery life So far, impressive

and those 5 are: ?

N5, N4, GNex, Bionic, Droid X. All good phones, each better than it's predecessor, though battery life for me was almost identical (as I use my phone) on all except the N5. With it, I go a full day and have about 40 to 60% battery left at midnight.

Re: Great Battery life So far, impressive

:o and with 14% left. Airplane mode on?

Almost, WiFi only with everything else on. But the phone isn't on a carrier yet. Still I figure that when it is I should get at least 4 hours screentime and 12 or 13 hours before it drains (at least! :p). :D

Oh OK. Then that's what it is. No cell radio wasting the battery. I should try my phone with airplane mode on, see how it would do when I get a new phone and disable this one

From my experience, you should get every bit of that. So far today, my N5 is at 13 hours on time, 3 hours screen time, with 40% battery remaining. The screen time was internet, games, and 1 movie rental.

That is a good thought! The only worry is where I am none of the carriers are so good, so I anticipate more than average drain from the radios looking for a decent signal. That way if it's better than I think I can be pleasantly surprised. ;)

They're not good... Verizon and ATT are the only passable ones so I'll get ATT Straight Talk or such.

Hmm. Are they bad at home/work or all around?

I only really know how Sprint is around here from experience but it's only OK for calls. The two I mention are supposedly better according to OpenSignal maps but they're still not great here. T-Mobile maps indicate they should be great here but on OpenSignal it shows they'd be as bad as Sprint or even worse. I don't really go far from where I live.

Coming from an Evo V (AKA the old Evo 3D), the battery life has been great for me. I thought I would do a test to see how far the battery would go on a single charge for a typical work day. I ended up getting almost 26.5 hours before I put it back on charge, about half the time on wifi. While I don't have a ton of screen time, this includes about 3.5 hours of wifi tethering to my Nexus 7 and around 7 hours of listening to podcasts. With my old evo, an hour of tethering would drain about 35% of the battery. It will be interesting to test it out over a weekend when I will have more screen time.
