Very Poor Battery Life...

There are a couple on amazon that offer a spare battery and a battery charger. I did this when I had my Hero but ended up not working that well. I just got into a pattern of charging overnight and found a rom that ran well. I'd suggest finding a rom you like then adding back the bloat you like. You just need to move the apk files back.

Okay, update on battery:

Back at school, unplugged, in the morning, having been there less than an hour, Cell Standby was at 43%. That's what's killing. I think also that I have my school-based emails on a 5 minute check (Push works for 3 days then stops functioning). I think I might buy a second battery though - any suggestions for where?

I am in the same boat, my battery will die inside 8 hours even after trying every single possible helpful thing. The radio just sucks juice SO fast when in a poor signal area. The phone will run for 2 days (yes, 48 hours) at my house no problem, but at work I can watch the meter drain down in front of me. If you want my advice on a second battery (huge YMMV, worth a shot), take your phone to the VZ store, tell them the battery life sucks, and they will send you out a new one free of charge. I did this, and they were totally confused about the return policy so I ended up just keeping the original battery (both perform equally poorly when im at work) but I do now have a spare handy just in case.

I'm back to stock since the DL09 update, and I'm not going to root until there's another Froyo rumor, since it's a pain to go back and forth. But I will keep those in mind for when I root again and use a different kernel. Thanks for the suggestion.
Don't need to be rooted for juice defender. It allows you to turn the 3g signal on and off with a widget, or have the application manage it. When it's off you still get phonecalls and texts, just nothing data-related. It's made the biggest difference in my battery life out of anything.

When comparing cell standby percentage to battery life you news to make sure to select it in the battery usage menu and see what the percentage is for time without signal. I too generally see cell standby to be about 40% after the phones been sitting overnight, but I have signal the entire time.

Friend of mine has has a Sprint HTC EVO SHIFT. His battery life has always been much shorter tham mine. We both have the same phone. we were at the Huntsville Hamfest this weekend and he was complaining about his battery life and another friend asked him if his phone was HOT when he went to use it! The answer was yes! Second friend told him the magnetic catch on his case was turning ON his phone. We played with his phone and case and found out this is true! If he put his phone in the case face out it would come on when he closed the case. If he put it in face in, it did not come ON!

I always carry mine face IN and he always carried his face OUT. Not any more!!!!!

We are both using a horizontal belt case with a magnetic closer!

I have never seen this mentioned on any Android sight before and I hope this information helps others with battery problems!
