So I installed Viber today, not that I know anyone else yet that has it, and was wondering if anybody else has tested it to see what the call quality is like vs something like groove ip?

I do love the idea that calling and texting to people using it is free even internationally.

once Virgin mobile implements their data cap across all their plans, pre existing and new customers alike, apps like this are going to look less attractive

I suppose that's true but for people that use wifi a lot that won't be an issue. Also, as of now, if you text someone in canada or any other country you will get billed for it. Haven't tried on VM so not sure if it will even let you unless you have money on your account. With Viber you can text free anywhere in the world as long as they use Viber too. That part is still attractive to people I'm sure.

On a side note, and I don't mean any offense, I was asking what the call quality was like not if it was attractive to people to use it. ;)

I was actually excited about Viber until I actually installed it... what isn't obvious (at least in the engadget article i read) is that BOTH people have to have Viber installed. Its not a true voip app like Groove IP, where you can actually connect to phones through a phone connection. Since both people have to have Viber installed, I don't think its anything more useful than skype.

Possibly, I just liked the international capability. Won't ever use it for domestic. I'm hoping it just isn't as much of a resource hog and is actually killable unlike skype.
