And unfortunately I can confirm that yes, the capacitive buttons do really stuck. At first I assumed it was just how all the galaxys worked as my vibrant can be a little finicky if I don't hit the button dead on. But the epic did feel notably worse in terms of responsiveness, I really had to jam the buttons.

The good news is everything else felt great, it was very fast and did feel well built and good to hold. And I don't think people are really going to miss the few missing parts of touchwiz.

Not trying to hate on the epic, I like sprint, had them for two years and I still think the epic is better than the evo. I just wanted people to know that's its not in people heads its a real issue.

The capacitive buttons look almost exactly like what they have on the Instinct. After owning an Instinct for over 2 years, at least I'll be used to it because it sounds like they are as unresponsive.

The nexus one had the same issue when it first came out, the button response "area" is actually slight above the button, but we all got used to it and it is a non issue now. I <3 my sexy nexy.

?? Are you joking? My Instinct buttons were incredibly responsive. Did you have the second gen or the first gen instinct?

I got it on release day, so first gen. Maybe I got a bad unit, but I'm having to hit the phone or home button 2-3 times quite often.

I had a first gen too. I had sooo many problems, but believe me, the capacitative buttons on my phone were not a problem, even if I pressed them as fast as I could. The screen would switch to a different screen instantaneously.

I had an issue with the buttons the first day, but after changing some of the settings around I no longer have a problem. You have to set the keyboard light as the same time as the screen time and that way the buttons will always be on so you don't need to double tap the buttons, it helps out tremendously.

Is there a way to make the back lights for the capacitive dim so its not too bright?

Yes! You can!

from Engadget:
[Update: Sprint has let us know that you can actually change the behavior of the button backlighting -- it uses the keyboard's backlight timeout setting, which is 6 seconds by default but can be set to match the screen. Problem solved!]

Edit: Actually I see, that you are asking about the lighting. I thought what Engadget said was about the lighting, but it's only the timing. However, someone else in the forum said that you can adjust the capacitative button backlight. Go figure, so much confusion.
