Vibrate when picking up phone

Anyone know why the phone has a short vibrate after picking it up after it has been facing down on a hard surface whlie it has been off?

actually, isn't that "Smart Alert"? You have an option to have the phone vibrate when it is picked up and there are missed calls/messages.

phantomog beat me to it. yeah, it's probably letting you know you have a missed notification. it doesn't have to be facing down for it to work either.
