Question video calls and guitar lessons

I teach guitar. I live in So-Cal. I have a student in Texas. When we use "Meet" for video calls, our speaking voices sound fine over the phones, however, when eith of us plays our guitar, the phone supresses the sound of the guitar as if it were doing some kind of noise cancelling thing. When I simply make a video on my phone, save it, both the voice and guitar sound fine. What's up with this? It would really be great to be able to have a guitar lesson live, over a video call and be able to hear each others guitars.

Welcome to Android Central! What devices are you using? I know for sure that iPhones over-aggressively filter out non-speech sounds, but I'm not sure about Android devices.
