Because my wife and I have a 1 and 1/2 year old running around the house, we are constantly Skyping with the grandparents because they live out of town. It has been a great way for them to see our son grow over the last year. So I'm wondering, with the front camera, what will be the first programs to take advantage of that? I read a little about fring, but I didn't care for that program when I had a TouchPro over a year ago. You think Skype will come out with an update to allow for video?

i'm sure it will, espicially with 4g, the speeds of 4g are actually faster then most broadband connections people use in their homes!

This will most likely come since everyone wants it

I'm wondering about this too. Not Skype specifically but any apps that will support it.
Can't get any solid info though. Skype's not available for Sprint(?), Fring supports video with what networks(?), what others are available(?).

This phone could be killer for video "chatting".

Theres already one. The one you see it advertised with qik allows people to follow you online and stream video to or record and upload. Its entirely free. The phone will come preloaded with it.

Does Qik let you chat one on one? Seems from the description it streams to the site, I.e. One way.

Eventually we will get there, im not sure if now with 2.1 OS or later on with 2.2 OS and full flash capabilities but thet's the idea , after all why would they include a front facing camara in the device???

Qik is one way, streams to their site. And it's available on most Android phones. Search Qik in the market.

Yeah but nobody uses Google chat.

Does Fring do video with MSN, AOL, etc? Or just Skype?

I hope Skype will come with video. Be cool to skype "grandma and grampa" from Disney World.

Nobody uses Google Chat right now, true. But if they had an Android app, and it gave free 2 way video chat on the Evo, you can bet everyone with an Evo would be using it. In addition to that, anyone with a future Android that had a front facing camera would definitely be using it too.

Microsoft used to have an app called MS Portrait back in the day that allowed 2 way video chat for free, but I doubt we will ever see an Android version of it.

True. But when you want to chat with somebody on a home computer they'd have to install and setup the program. Always a hard sell. GTalk is impossibly hard to get contacts into and working.
