Since the 2.2 update the Droid Inc. has MPEG-4, H.263, H.264, what is the best option to use with 720p? and is there a way to increase the frame rate to get slow motion video?

thanks for your help...Eugene

Yeah it would niceif a developer found a way to increase frames per second

what about what was is the best setting for 720p? I look online and H.264 is basically a MPEG-4 format? so is it a smaller file size or what?

No clue. That's why I didn't say anything about it. I was wondering myself. I am using MPEG4 but may change due to the videos not playing in Windows Media

I can do some research on it later. I'm really interested in the video camera myself because I want to record video from the front of a motorcycle with my phone

Pretty sure 720p only works with MPEG4 set as the encoding format. At least on mine. If anyone else is able to set h.264 and 720p, I'd be interested to know.

h.264 is useful for smaller size that will be more easily uploaded to the cloud (YouTube, Facebook).

And no, at least unrooted there is no way to increase the FPS. I don't know that there is a way to do it rooted, either, but that would be the only way to do it.

I never bothered to test the two settings until now. 720p isn't available when we choose the h.264 encoding. However, the file size is much smaller than an MPEG4 video -- more than half the size by my test.

I prefer to have HD recordings; so, I'm going to stick with MPEG4.

On my DInc, regardless of what settings I use all videos taken are saved in 3GP. Any ideas why?

.3gp is a pretty standard format for video that is recorded on mobile phones. .3gp allows for smaller file sizes, which is usually needed on small mobile devices. you can convert .3gp to almost any other format with software, if needed.

You are missing the point.... in settings I choose mp4 but it still records in 3gp.

For anyone wondering H.264 is used for a wide variety of services like Youtube, iTunes store, Blu-Ray Disks, Silverlight, Flash, and certain broadcast services across cable and satellite services. It is to help people keep video and audio quality relatively high at a smaller bit rate. This means you can stream it with less bandwidth and maintain quality to a certain point. Higher than other encoding type any ways.

H.264 / H.263 are a subset of MPEG-4 the common notation is H.264/AVC, AVC/H.264, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, or MPEG-4/H.264 AVC. So really it's going to be the same thing really except for some reason they didn't include a 720p option in the software for out phones. I guess to ensure that you get pure uncompressed(?) video at full bitrate. (Hence the fps is pretty bad as is, at a lower bitrate it would look like 480!)

Sorry if that reply seemed harsh....I was replying quick from work last night. What I was referring to is that no matter what setting I use in video camera mode, once the recording is done and saved, it is saved as 3gp.

3gp is just the container, not the format. The content is being encoded in MPEG4 and being saved into a 3gp container. Most "non-smartphones" record in h.263 into 3gp container. This phone can also do h.264 and standard MPEG4 into the same container.

Why is this an issue for you? A little more context might help if you having a problem.
