Video Playback Dimming Screen

I've recorded several videos at this point on my SGSIII, and every time I play them back, the screen dims (a considerable amount, I'm guessing about 30%) and the video plays. Once the video is finished, I hit the back button and the screen lights back up for a second while still showing the video preview and then stays bright going back into regular operation. Why does it do this? Is there a hidden display brightness setting for video playback that I'm unaware of?

Playing recorded video directly from the Video Player app replicates the same problem.

Playing YouTube videos (through the YouTube app) full screen does not replicate this problem. Videos play bright and normal.

Any ideas?

Can't believe you're the only one that's posted about this issue. Just took some video for the first time, and I get the same thing!

Edit: ok, just read in another search result that the video player has its own brightness setting. If you play a video in portrait mode and hit the menu button, you'll see a "Settings" option. If you play it in landscape and hit the menu button, you'll have to scroll down to find "brightness."

When you're playing the video, press the menu button. There is a separate brightness for the video player (along with a separate one for browser)
