Viewing images...not stretch mode

I have researched this question before but never found an answer, perhaps I am not asking it correctly...

Example, if your tablet is 1200x800 resolution, and you have an image that is only 600x400, why does the tablet insist on opening this image in "stretch mode" for viewing? This only make that 600x400 look terrible. As you know LCDs do not do this, the image would open as a 400x400 image regardless for what resolution size your LCD is set to. Does anyone know how to tell an android tablet to open images via Gallery (or viewing app) at the images actual resolution size and not "stretch"?

Thanks!
Dan

I am using the new Samsung 10.1 2014. I am using the default Gallery app. I have installed QuickPic and that app at least allows you to "pinch" the image down to its native size. But when you srcoll to the next image, it will open in strectch mode again.

Are you saying the Nexus 7 Gallery will open images in its native resolution size?
