Viewing photos via HDMI

Trying to figure out if I bought a bad HDMI cable or if I'm not using it right.

Plugged my DX to my tv via the HDMI cable. Went to gallery to view photos, selected a photo and hit the HDMI button, but nothing. Am I doing something wrong? Oh btw, my tv did not acknowledge that I plugged in the device.
Am I doing something wrong or did I possibly get a bad cable?

I got my cable this week and had it working. If you disconnect the cable and press the HDMI button, do you get a "Please Wait while Connecting..." message indicating it is trying to connect, followed a few seconds later with a "HDMI cable is not connected"? You should if the DX is primed for HDMI.

It's after midnight here, but I'll check this thread again in the morning to see if you have made progress, or if you still are in trouble.

Please don't be offended by this question, but I can't help but to ask.

You did switch the input on your TV to the new HDMI input, right?

Yes. But I may have done something wrong. When I went to the Input menu, the phone didn't show up. As being plugged in. I'll have to check again when I get home tomorrow night.
I did do what you said to do on your first post. It did say that the cable is not connected.

I don't believe it. I just reconnected to use my HDMI cable again, and I can't get it to reliably connect. The only time I could get my Samsung to attach to the DX source was when I power cycled the DX, while the TV was in the Input Menu, but I couldn't do it a second time. Now I just end up with the "HDMI cable is not connected" message, even though it is.

I swear I didn't have to jump through major hoops to use it a week ago, when I first got it. Actually, when it did work then, the on screen results weren't all that impressive anyway, so I'm just going to back off on trying to use it for now. Good luck with yours. I love my DX, but I think it may end up driving me nuts.

Is anyone having any luck with this? I didn't try it before I upgraded to Froyo, but I cannot get my TV to recognize there is a device connected to it.

My config is a Samsung 7288W DLP TV connected to my Droid X running Froyo.

Any help or even a step-by-step that describes what you are doing would be a great help.

Best regards,

Scott

It's working for me now, after I ordered and received another HDMI cable from Amazon. Pictures aren't all that impressive on the big screen, in letterbox format, but movies that I put on the DX show fairly well, not full HD, of course, but tolerable.

Just noticed you asked about procedure. It's pretty straightforward. Plug in the cable, set the TV channel to the connected HDMI port, Open Gallery in the DX, select a picture, or clip, and select HDMI in the upper Left-Hand corner.

Go to settings>HDMI. Mess around with some of those settings. Also check to see if that TV supports the newest version off HDMI 2.1 I believe?

Thanks to everyone for their help. I found that my player, while using the internal player to actually play the video, didn't support the HDMI out function that the internal player does. As far as I know, the internal player is the only player that supports HDMI out.

Step-by-step, I opened the gallery, navigated to the video I wanted to play, and clicked it. When the internal player came up, I clicked the "HDMI" in the upper left corner and the TV recognized the source and it started to play.

Now I have to get my player's dev to support the HDMI out of the internal player! :D

Yep. I ran into this problem too after minutes of cursing at my phone and TV. I love Android and will never go back to IOS and my iPhone but MAN they sure can make the simplest of things so complicated.

I also have noticed that some tvs have a protection circuit when plugging in external source. The manuals usually suggest you turn tv off before plugging in devices into the HDMI port. Might want to try this habit as well.
