Are there any other options for getting a new virtual keyboard on the Droid, aside from Better Keyboard? I find that most of the skins are good but not as high definition as is needed for the Droid screen.

Has anyone been able to port the Eris or Hero keyboard to the Droid?

All suggestions welcome

For now, i'm using the iPhone skin only because it seems like the cleanest one out there. Even though i hate having anything iPhone on my Droid

Use the oil slick , with better keyboard , best combo out there to me

I have been searching for a really good virtual keyboard. I have been using Better Keyboard for awhile with the ice skin. I found smoog to be the best skin with some space between keys on portrait. I think those are better than oil slick.

Now, by far, the BEST virtual keyboard is the "leaked" HTC Touch keyboard. I downloaded it to try the other day (Touch kb and it has lots of space around the keys and the keys are bigger. It actually makes the portrait kb usable. It does have a few minor quirks but overall it is awesome. If you try it you won't go back. (I just tried better kb with the oil slick skin for comparison, and switched back immediately) .. also, it adds the popup words when using the physical kb .. nice!

There is also swype but I haven't tried that yet ..

There are two other choices that are good... Talk to me keyboard and Swype... both of which you have options on how to construct your messages. ttm keyboard has voice to text as well as predictive text while typing on both virtual and physical keyboards. Swype has drag or picture style or the option to type normally..both of those will give you a more user friendly keyboard..

Swype is the way to go. I have tried it all and chose Swype.

Wow, I just tried Swype finally and it is amazing!! Within a few minutes I was typing correct words with ease. Definitely must try!!

I just downloaded Swype. I am not even a little bit impressed. Its probably user error. But, I find it nearly impossible to type error free more than 2 words in a row.

Again, I'll assume user error since so many people seem to love this jesus-app. But, it ain't working for me and seems to add needless confusion and difficulty to an otherwise simple and easy task. The virtual keyboard is vastly superior (for me).

However, developer DID say that the app was not "ready", I did only use it for about a half hour. Also, I'm a 2-thumb typer and I think Swype works MUCH better with a one finger technique.

Dude, you don't TYPE, you SWIPE the words on the keyboard (drag your finger around through the letters). You can't do it with two fingers. Watch the tutorial. Within minutes of going through the tutorial, I was swiping way faster that a normal "typing" keyboard. lol

try the swype tutorial. There's now way you're making that many errors if you're actually swyping
