visual voicemail issues????

I have visual voicemail and am not receiving notifications in the status bar. I receive a generic text message from verizon saying there has been voicemail activity and to reinstall the app to access my voicemails. The app doesn't need to be reinstalled, but can anyone tell me where I can change the setting to stop sending texts and to show the icon in the status bar? Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

I had the same problem. I was able to fix it by going to settings-applications-manage applications-visual voicemail and then clear the data and cache. Then you need to go to accounts and reinstall the visual voicemail. I have never had this problem again since I did this.

If you are looking for another alternative I would suggest YouMail (available in market). It is free and has some fun extras.
I stopped paying Verizon for their VV and have been very happy with YouMail.

Why bother with YouMail or Verizon Visual Voicemail when you can just get Google Voice? It has visual voicemail and widgets.
