Hello, I purchased a unlocked S8 from best buy around a few months ago but I've been using metro pcs on it which had a separate voicemail app for it

I've finally gotten verizon cause I could not take the bad signal anymore and while verizon has been fantastic service everywhere I've been so far I dont see am option for visual voicemail, I Googled it and they said that only verizon branded phones have visual voicemail

was wondering if that's changed in the last few months? the forums seemed outdated but I'm not entirely sure and if not possible any 3rd party app?

thanks for the help guys

Hmmm... I'm not sure about Visual Voice Mail not being allowed. I know WiFi calling is not allowed for non-Verizon branded phones. You can check the Google Play store for Visual Voice Mail.

To be fair, there really isn't a huge difference between a Verizon branded phone and the unlocked version. All Verizon phones are SIM unlocked; meaning you can use any activated SIM and connect to any GSM/LTE network worldwide. The differences lie in that the Verizon phones show the Verizon splash screen on start-up and come pre-loaded with Verizon apps and certain features that Verizon allows for its branded phones (i.e. WiFi calling, etc.)

I have an unlocked version as well on Verizon and cannot get access to visual voicemail. I have resorted to going back to Google voice for voicemails

Is google voice something you need to pay for? I am not familiar with that app/service

Google Voice is free. The downside is that you have a separate number and it's not everywhere. For example, I live in Hawaii and Google Voice does not have any numbers available for Hawaii area code (808).

link takes me to Google play store and the app states that visual voicemail is not compatible for this device. unlocked version on Verizon

I get the same message and also have unlocked version on Verizon. Using YouMail

On Verizon, unless you are using a Moto X Pure or Nexus 6, you will have to use a 3rd party app for visual voicemail in conjunction with call forwarding. I personally use Google Voice, but YouMail also works. In the case of the former, I like it because it ties to your Google Account and you can access it independently of your phone.

On Verizon, you can go to your account on the website or the MyVerizon app and set up call forwarding that way to your Google Voice/YouMail number. On your phone I believe it is a call to *71-XXX-XXX-XXXX (where the "X"-ed out number is the number for your VVM service). That same number should be used as your "Voicemail Number" in the dialer.

When I had an unlocked S7 Edge, the combo of the *86 voicemail and the garbled messages that come in everytime a message was sent used to really annoy. Post-Google Voice it's been great. Plus you get transcribed voice messages for free.

I will have to check this out. I'm just wondering if prepaid would have that... i'll look into it thank you

My wife just got an unlocked S8 and after missing about a dozen voicemails she realized there were no voicemail notifications. She called Samsung and was told it’s a carrier restriction.

Does anyone know if this also the case with AT&T?

I have vvm on my s8+ unlocked version using AT&T.

I use this app:

You probably won't be able to get carrier visual voicemail on any unlocked phones, I had the pixel XL and had to download Google voicemail.
