Android Central Question

Hello, have downloaded VLC player on my Sony Android TV, as it seems to be the best player by far to play mkv files without having to download any codecs.

My problem, is that when opening a video (from the TV), VLC is not appearing as an 'other app' to choose from. After downloading VLC it also appears under Featured apps as well instead of My Apps which I find quite odd too.

Thanks

I moved this to the Android TV forum for more specific traffic.

Open VLC, Use it to open the video. (That's what would happen anyway, if VLC were on the list.)

Yes this of course works fine.

I am using DS Video as my video media centre and I want to push the videos that are not supported in DS Video to VLC instead of MX Player ect.

I have Kodi installed and do not have the option to push the videos to that app either.

So it just looks like android is not picking out these two apps as video players. I initially thought it was because android was putting VLC into the featured apps section on the home page but as Kodi is not being picked up either it must be something else. Nevertheless, it would be great to get rid of the featured apps section too to de-clutter the main page, plus 90% of the apps listed there are not of my interest too.

And I apologise for not previously expanding on my issue before.

It looks like a problem with DS Video and looks like it could be intentionally not including VLC player in the choose application list (may be to do with their links with MX Player). I was using AceStream yesterday and VLC appeared in the list.

So next port of call for me would be to contact Synology and let you guys know the outcome.
