Voice Activated feature

Again I'm coming from Windows Phone so I was spoiled with Cortana just by holding the search button I could ask or tell her anything, it was truly a breeze to be driving and just have her plot out the GPS through HereDrive. I'm looking for a way to get something similar on the G4. I tried the Googlenow launcher and liked the fact you can say "OK Google" and get a response BUT only from the unlocked home page. IS there a way to achieve this using the stock LG launcher or do I have to switch it up?

Go to the Google Settings app, then Search & Now>Voice>"Ok Google" Detection, and turn on From Any Screen. Be aware that this can increase battery usage.

As you probably now, this does not require you to install Google Now Launcher.
