I have a Galaxy S7 and I'm using a lot the Google Voice Assistant to make phone calls when listening to music in my headphones. The problem is that every time after google assistant/ google now makes the call, the screen turns on with the call :( and I accidentally press the available buttons, like Hold, Speaker, Number pad, etc.

Is there a way to make the call go in the background?

Not automatically. You might want to try Proximity Service to keep the screen off when the phone is in your pocket. (Or try an app that turns the screen off when the phone is upside down, and put it into your pocket "head first".)

I verified the Proximity sensor and it works fine, I tried an app that automatically turns the screen of after 1 seconds, and it doesn't work, or it works but only half, because it turns the screen off when the screen with initiating the call appears, but when the call actually happens the screen stays on :(.
