Voice Commands not recognizing contacts?

I have the latest version of Voice Commands downloaded from the Android Market. I have even cleared data, uninstalled, reinstalled, and have "People" checked in the search option in settings. Battery pull has also been done.

Navigating seems to work, however, when saying someones name from contacts (all contacts are synced with my Google account) in Voice Commands, it fails to work. Instead of recognizing a contact, it will call a random business like a zoo or school when trying to voice dial someone. Another example, when I say "Send text to xxx, message, xxxxxxxxx". It just shows has the persons name in the message field and not the contacts field.

Has anyone ever experienced this problem? Any solutions? It just started happening last night for me.

Nevermind, found out I had to go to:

-Settings
-Accounts and Sync
-Uncheck background sync and auto sync
-Go to Applications
-Clear data on Contact Storage
-Go back to Accounts and Sync
-Check background synce and auto sync
-Sync everything

Took me 3 hours to find this solution and everything is back to normal. The voice commands even work now.

Nice nimrod, tell everyone to clear all their contact data.

For anyone interested, there is an app called "voice dialer" that seems to only call people from your contact list... Assuming you have not already deleted them all by following frankthetanks advice.

If you read both posts, he clearly stated that all his contacts were synced with GMail, so clearing the data and re-syncing contacts form GMail is a perfectly reasonable and effective fix. He was also trying to fix a problem with Google Voice Commands, which is much more than a simple voice dialer.

I would counsel others to check and make sure your contacts are GMail contacts and not phone contacts before clearing the data.

Hi,

I have a similar problem. When I use Google Voice Search (on my new phone), the speech-to-text goes in accurately, but it does not recognize that the contact name I give is actually in my contacts list.

I tap the mic and say, "Call Brian", but it says, "Say the name of the contact you want to call, or say cancel". I don't know why this is happening. It worked like a charm on my old phone.

FYI
- I have Google contacts synced with Gmail.
- Tried the contact storage deletion steps given above in that order.
- In Voice Service setting I have enabled it to search in contacts.
- I have even tried entering contacts with both first name and last name, but it still gives the above result.

Phone: Huawei Honor 3C (my old phone was an inferior model of the same brand but it worked perfectly)
OS: Jelly Bean

Let me know if you need to know anything else.
