Voice recognition (like search and voice actions and stuff) is usually hit or miss for me. Sometimes its good and sometimes its bad
My husband has problems on his Epic with voice recognition. My Nexus is spot on most of the time. I think it must be the pitch of your voice that makes it work right. I was told by someone that if you speak like a robot and a little slower than normal that it will understand you better.
Voice recognition used to be awesome with my Droid X and with my EVO, but I'm not having the same excellent performance with my Nexus S 4G. After a trip to the Sprint store, I did realize that it is the latest version of voice search that is defective. After wiping my phone, the voice recognition was perfect. After I put in my gmail account and the apps on the phone updated, the voice search app didn't work properly. If you try the demo models at the store, they will work, but once you update the app, it doesn't work well at all. Hope this helps.
I haven't had any issues with voice recognition. I have the occasional thing where I talk in it and I look down and see it wasn't initiated even thoe I thought I did. Thats about it. But everything is spot on.
From the homescreen, when you do the voice search and say "navigate to McDonalds" what does it do? Its supposed to start up Google Navigation. Mine does a Google search for McDonalds. When I'm in a messaging app, the voice recognition doesn't work at all.
Nope mine goes to "Navigate to McDonalds" timeout, then opens up Navigation and gives me a list of McDonalds in my area. I said "Navigate McDonalds" NOT "Navigate to McDonalds". Don't know if that makes a difference.
Voice Recognition works flawlessly in messaging app for me. :-/
i noticed background noise plays a big role. that mic is picking up ever sound it can for accuracy, kind too sensitive.
i have to agree that it probably is the update that messed it up. after the update, it has a "more enhanced recognition feature" that probably works backwards and messes it up. if you go to market and just uninstall the latest update, that should fix it (or probably just go to the Voice recognition settings and un-check "personalized recognition").
i do find that when i speak like a robot it works better (with personalized recognition on) so I plan on testing this for a full day today to see if un-checking personalized recognition works at all.

JUST FOUND A FIX! For all of those having issues, I just found a fix through the reviews in the Android Market. If you go to the Google dashboard and down to voice search, you can delete your prior recordings. I did this and now mine works.
Keep in mind, this is a OLDER version. Nexus has 2.1.3, the app market has 2.1.1.
Didn't matter. I had the same issue with my EVO as far as the voice actions. The fix works for anyone with any phone having this issue regardless of the app version. The app isn't broken.
I too have no problems with the voice recognition...but it might just be the way you are speaking.
It wasn't the way I was speaking. Before I bought the phone, I tested out the demo unit and it worked fine. The Nexus that I bought didn't work after I activated my account to it. I switched to the EVO and that didn't work once I logged into it. When I returned the EVO for the Nexus again, I read about the dashboard settings and deleted the voice recordings. Using my same voice, my phone now works perfectly. The problem wasn't my voice, not the app, it was the voice recognition recordings.
I did a test like you said and spoke "navigate McDonalds" and it took me to the navigation page with all my local McDonalds restaurants listed. Mine does a fantastic job of voice recognition and I hardly ever type my text messages because it does such a good job. I will tell my husband about this because he has a hard time on his Epic with that. Thanks so much
can you post a screenshot of that setting because i am looking in my dashboard and cannot find that setting anywhere...?
yea....i think that setting is gone from the dashboard. I've been trying to find this for ages, and still can't find it. I am using the stock Voice Search app that came with the Nexus S (assuming it came with the latest update).
I found it when I googled "Google dashboard". It will take you to a place to log into your Google acct. then it will bring everything up that has to do with google. Part way down the page you will see dashboard and the voice settings are there.
