Ok there is a voicemail icon on the main home screen. Has anyone been able to change this button from dialing *86 and making you input your password? I know how to set up VM to do this (with ,, ## etc) and can assign a speed dial and even change the default speed dial #1 to dial without a password. I cannot change that VM icon to anything besides *86. This VM button has it's own entry in contacts and cannot be changed, it states it is a Preset Contact from Verizon Wireless. I would love to hit that button and have it go straight in to VM. I know that I can create another contact and a shortcut on my homepage but when you press that one you get an extra step because it wants to know if you want to call it or text it, Seems kinda goofy that they would lock this one, this change has been easy to implement on every clam shell phone I ever had.:-\

Any ideas? Thanks.

Voicemail icon is for Visual Voicemail

I just upgraded from a Samsung Fascinate to an X2. That icon would only dial *86 on the Fascinate until I subscribed to Verizon visual voicemail. It must be the same way with the X2 as that icon takes me directly to my visual voicemail with a list of all of my voice messages on my new X2.
If you do not want to subscribe to visual voicemail, you can trash that icon and search for an app that will do a much better job of checking your voicemail. That was the suggestion that I was given at the Verizon store.

First, create a contact with the number that you want to dial and name it Voicemail (there may already be one in there). Then long-press on the home screen, select shortcut then direct dial. Find the contact and you're set.

I couldn't get it to work using the voicemail widget on the homescreen that came installed with the phone. I was told at the VZ store that it wouldn't work on this phone and that you had to sign up for visual voice mail to be able to enter your password automatically. However, I created a new contact in my Google Account on my home pc called "#Voice Mail" and then entered *86,,1234#, note the pound on the end, where 1234=your password, and ,, are two pauses. Then, I synced, my google contacts to my phone and this brought that new #Voice Mail "contact" into the phone. Then, I created a shortcut to that new contact and made a new "Voice Mail" widget on the home screen. Then, I trashed the Voicemail widget that was first there (actually moved it to an obscure page, though that doesn't really matter). I have not tried to enter this into a new contact directly on the phone, but presumably that should work also the same way. Maybe this might work for you.

The contacts in your Google Account and those synced by adding your google account to the phone are the same thing. It's somewhat confusing if you're not used to the additional control that Blur takes of your phone. That's one of the distict advantages of an Android phone. Add your google account, and all your stuff is there.
