I'm pretty sure there is a thread for this but I couldn't find a clear answer. I'm on at&t and switched from an iphone and I have absolutely no idea how to set up my voicemail. Is there an app I need to install or something? I've pressed 1 and called it and it says it needs more information and asks for my voicemail box# but I have no idea what that is. I tried putting my phone number in but that didnt work.

are you trying to set google voice voicemail or default ATT voicemail.

if its ATT you might have to call ATT

I'm just trying to do the default ATT voicemail. I don't know what google voicemail is, is that better?
its a voice-mail and call forwarding service provided by Google called Google voice. its only available in US.

it provides managing voice-mail from web. voicemail transcript and many feature which ATT don't provide.

I'm going to try google voice then.
It gives 2 options when setting it up
1) Port your mobile number to Google Voice or 2) Get Google Voicemail for your existing mobile number
I'm not sure which one i'm supposed to do

Thanks, I think I got it set up. How do I make a greeting that people will hear when they call me and it goes to voicemail?

here is the google voice inbox(all call details, missed calls, voicemail etc) https://www.google.com/voice?pli=1#inbox

greetings and others can be set here https://www.google.com/voice?pli=1#voicemailsettings
to change call settings https://www.google.com/voice?pli=1#callsettings

The above two links are settings page on separate tabs

you have an android app for managing it on your Nexus 4 https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...oogle.android.apps.googlevoice&token=aNxXh3IX

to activate google voicemail on your phone go to phone tab in settings

Ok, thank you for the help

That's what makes AC Forums great! People responded and helped you with clear cut instructions. And yes, Google Voice is so much better than any providers traditional voicemail.

Once you go Google Voice, you never go back. :)

If you're using the default AT&T voicemail you don't need to do anything. It is already set up, it does not matter that you are changing devices.
