Hi,

I use a VOIP account from Sipgate for my work/office number. This is managed by the modem in the office which has the SIP account configured on it and there is a standard phone socket on the back into which I plug the desk phone.

I'm going to be out of the country for a month and wanted to see if I could set this up on my S8 to use it remotely.

I read online that the phone app has an option to add SIP accounts but mine does not. Which could be either because I'm running Android 7 with all updates disabled so the phone app is the one it shipped with, or because the carrier doesn't allow it, or because Samsung hide the feature on their phones.

I don't want to allow anything to update "just to try it and see", we're leaving in a few days, it's too risky. So I'm looking at separate apps to do this. Any recommendations..?

Have installed "Zoiper". Recognises and auto-configures for the provider and "just works". Amazing. Battery drain seems minimal so far.

Or at least it "just works" on our home network but won't work over 4G. I am guessing the carrier (EE in the UK) blocks that. It requires that I connect to our VPN and then it connects fine through that, which would seem to prove the carrier block.
