I remember reading of an app that lets you set the volume higher than the system allows by default. I have some movies with a low volume problem. Does anyone remember what It is called?

I know of Volume+. It installs on the Nexus 7, but the developer has a note that Jelly Bean support isn't ready yet. And it doesn't really sound like
the volume boost is working to me.

EDIT: Actually I'm wrong, I just gave it another try just now, testing with a sound meter, and it's definitely working. So probably give that a try. :)

You can also try SpeakerBoost. Its not amazing but it works pretty well and is free. I got it when I got my nexus and it has already been updated twice with fixes. Give it a shot

I have an idea, lets get an app that will increase the volume over the specified threshold that it was meant for! Hopefully we can all pop all of our speakers together and then send them in for repair!!! Whos with me?

The limit on the volume is there for the protection of the person's hearing, and to prevent lawsuits from morons. Also, I guess Phil, Jerry and the other writers on Android Central who have written about these apps, the developers who wrote them, and the thousans of users who have downloaded them are all morons.

Please let mature people use these forums for their purpose, which is to help each other in a friendly atmosphere.

Oh, on the way to the basement, make sure to ask your Mom to make you another grilled cheese with bacon.

You have the ability to control how loud the speaker is set and it'll start sounding distorted before you damage it, so chances our a normal person will back down to a cleaner sounding volume before blowing out the speaker. :)

Exactly this. It warns you about the possible effects (blowing speakers or going deaf) beforehand. The overall N7 volume is low. I feel like even with apps they won't blow the speaker
