My up volume key doesn't provide vibrate, mute as the instructions claim. The option key does not have the setting. It displays a slider that can adjust volume. What do I do to activate the feature. Thanks.

Tap the icon which appears just above the slider. Once to switch to vibrate mode; twice to silence completely.

It's the little bell icon, which will change to reflect the mode you're in once you tap it. It doesn't stay up there too long though so you have to be quick.
