VVM question

Pressing 1 is standard voice mail not visual voice mail. As I understand it, they can't co-eixst. When you download the VVM ap and install it and ATT insures you are provisioned, you use the app not 1 to access voice mai.

So are we notified of new voicemails in the pull down notification bar? If so, what happens when we tap on the notification, does it dial in to listen to the voicemail message or does it open up the VVM app?

I believe that you need to be provisioned first before you install. In the past. You would get notification of the missed call and select the call notification and VVM launches. You select "play".

It will show up on the notification bar. When you select it, you go to the VVM app. There it lists your voicemails and you can select which one to listen to. Unlike 'normal' voicemail it seems to download the message, or it is just more seemless because you aren't 'dialing out' to get it, and you can listen to them in any order you wish.

Then you have the option of deleting it, or calling them back (via buttons)

I have used youmail on my phone, but had to delete it when the new version kept duplicating my contacts list and merging them. They promise a new version will come out addressing this issue; if so I will try again.

I have never used AT&T's VVM. Does ATT's VM send you a text and/or email message for new VM's and missed calls?

There should be a VM icon in your notification bar on your homescreen. Dropdown status bar or go to the VVM icon on your smokescreen.

The simple visual voice mail app does not send you any text or email messages. Not sure about the messaging app that comes stock on the phone. It may, it might cost something I am not sure but it is more than I want or need in a voice mail app. I like the VVM app, simple and easy.

I had disabled AT&T messages. I've re-enabled it, and now try the restart, and seeing if that helps.

Failing that, I'll call AT&T again, and ask them to reset my VVM. But, when I spoke with them this morning, they said, "Oh, the server is backed up, and it will take 24 hours..."

Yeah, really; honestly.

In the past if you had used the messaging app it deactived VVM on the system. I would clear the data and clear the default, if set, on the messaging app then ask ATT to RESET the VVM provisioning on your account restart the phone and try the VVM app again. That worked in the past. And of course do not touch that messaging app while using VVM.
