VZ is pushing ED04...

okay. So I did the update to ED04, but my build number still says ED01. The baseband version is correct at ED04. Confused about what the build number is and how to update it to ED04. My wife's phone is stock and she did the OTA to get ED04 and both her build number and baseband version say ED04. So is mine okay or did I do something wrong?

Just ODIN'd back to DI09 modem, then flashed the DI09 to ED04 zip from XDA...is it just me, or is the phone WAAAAYYYY snapier? (UKB 2.O with Comavolt)

I got flash happy today, and while I like Comavolt better, the real snappy ness came after the ED04...just saying...

My build number has stayed the same no matter what I have OTA'd or flash'd...just went back to DI09 then to Ed04 and it never changed.

If you are running a custom rom then it is probably built off of ED01,and your build number will still say ED01, You just updated the modem. I'm running Com Rom 1.3 and my baseband now says ED04 , but my build still says ED01. Your wifes phone got a whole new" Program ", not just a new modem like we did. So her numbers should match. As new rom's come out the build numbers will start going up to ED03 and ED04 also. If any of this is incorrect, someone please correct me

What is happening? What do you mean by it is not working? Need a few more details to try and troubleshoot it

The update downloads ok then my phone restarts. I starts to load the update then I get a yellow exclamation point and my phone restarts again. After it finishes booting up it tells me the updated failed to install. I tried three times last night and once this morning with the same result. I tried re-bloating and re-binging, unrooting and nothing. The only thing I haven't tried yet is putting the stock swype keyboard back.

"improves the delivery of OTA updates"

(PURE speculation, with no foundation).....could this be in anticipation of a more significant update.....say....gingerbread?

Baseband is the modem, build is the Rom. You are only changing the modem, so only baseband will change. You can flash the full DL09 package then get the OTA to get ED04 build, but as soon as you flash Comm ROM, your build will go to ED01

You still have ComaVolt, the ED04 is just the modem, ComaVolt is the kernel. And I've noticed it seems snappier too.

You won't be able to do any OTA without being completely stock. That means stock ROM with all bloat in tact, stock kernel, and stock recovery (no CWM)

I think it's more in reference to those that still have not been able to update OTA to the current version

Can you get this update w/o being at the current version? ....I'm not disagreeing with you, but just asking for purposes of understanding.

In reading what you said, it seams like you mean to say that this update is to help those who have 2.1 that have been having OTA update failures when trying to get to 2.2. Don't you need to have 2.2 before you can update 2.2?

I just got off the phone with Verizon tech support. ED04 does in fact address the missed call issue.

No, you don't have to be on 2.2 in order to get the updated 2.2. I was on the modified EC01 modem that came from the Mezmerize. I wanted the new modem which was ED03 at the time. I ODIN'd back to DL09 and the phone OTA'd to EA28 (which is still 2.1) then went directly to ED03. The phone did not OTA to ED01 first then ED03. Even now if I were to ODIN back to DL09, I would most likely go to EA28 then straight to ED04.

Can I do the above process over KB 1.3?

TIA

I did it last night with no problems. I didn't even lose root. Used the ODIN file to flash the DL09 modem, let phone boot, confirmed DL09 baseband, booted to CWM, flashed the DL09 to ED04 zip file, booted phone, checked baseband - ED04. Phone flies now, got instalock indoors with GPS, and I almost always have at least 3 bars on the cell signal now.

Like Kevin said, you have to be completely stock. When you debloated you may have removed something that needs to be there in order for the system to recognize you need and are available to get the OTA. Your best option is going to be ODIN back to stock DL09 and OTA from there.

Thanks Sharky, YOU DA MAN

On another note, It appears I got my 3G issues corrected. I got a sympathetic ear in VZW tech support who did the ESN swap for me. Turns out the call center is in the same office complex as me! Small world. Any way gonna give the modem update a try.

Interesting. Thanks for the (informative) info!

Looks like ED04 is working well for most. Of course the big question is why didn't they use it in the first place with Froyo?

Do they really test anything past power up, make a call, and send a few texts?

is this helping people with the 3G and related battery life issues also? I've definitely had the missed calls issue, so this should clean that up. I was hoping not to have to try the ESN swap.
