VZW: *228 option 2?

I've seen this in another thread regarding dropped calls and weal signal while using the DI. Can someone clue me in on what *228 option 2 is and what it is suppose to do?

Updates the roaming capabilities of the phone as well as updates the phone to recognize new towers and towers that have been reconfigured.

FWIW, I was told that when you update via option 1, it also updates your roaming files, too. So if you choose option 1, you don't ALSO have to do option 2.

Option 1 should typically only be used when you're getting your phone for the first time and need to program it to use your number and the VZW network properly. For all other times, option 2 will work, and is much faster.

Option 1 is for programming a new device. But yes, it does also update your PRL (preferred roaming list).
