VZW backed me into a corner

So I'm still (read: for the next few days) rocking the OG Inc, eligible for upgrade since December and contract was expired since April.

I had planned on holding out as long as possible on the upgrade and maintain my unlimited data. Granted I don't use more than 2 gigs a month, I have San Diego Comic-Con next month and use free wi-fi tethering when I'm there so it adds up. When VZW announced this phone I thought "Oh snap, here is my chance to get a true successor to my phone AND keep my unlimited data!" THEN they announced the dreaded Share Everything (Read: we own your souls) Plans.

So VZW backed me into a corner and this weekend I upgraded to a Rezound (Read: Actual Incredible 2) for the $79.99 online discount, in order to keep my data.

My question(s): What is the return policy timeframe? IF the Inc 4g gets released on 7/5/12 and it is within the return timeframe, would I be able to return the Rez and get the new hottness AND keep my contract as is?

Any help is much appreciated!

You have 14 days to return or exchange with a $35 restock fee. If the phone is returned or exchanged after 6/28, you will lose unlimited data due to a contract being signed on the day you swap phones. Hope this helps!

Even though I just signed a new 2yr contract on Saturday?

But yes it healps, thanks!

Yes, you signed a contract when you got the phone. When you exchange or return, you go back to your old contract and resign a new one

I have my upgrade date on the 30th of June...now that's a corner.

Ugh. That really sucks man. Go into the store or call customer service and beg plead and threaten them to give you an upgrade early :). In the past, they have been know to upgrade early within a 2 week time frame. They did it for me in the past, and for my buddy as recently as April. But with the new plans rolling out, I doubt they will, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Also ticks me off that Google sells the Galaxy Nexus direct from them for $399.99 but it is only a GSM version. Means that the GNex for Verizon is not a true Nex.

I just got a Rezounds as well. The rep at the local store told me that you can stay on your unlimited plan if you return your phone for the DInc 4G. You have to pay the restocking fee but stay on your existing contract. Have to do this by today. If you go in on June 28th, it is too late.

Yeah well the rep at my store told my friend that its all just a rumour and he'll get to keep his unlimited data and now he doesn't believe me that he'll lose it. >_<

It's sad that store reps are either ignorant or lying to customers about this situation by now. I could understand this 2 weeks ago when Verizon first announced ShareEverything and the facts were still to be explained. The fact is once you return a phone for a different model you,at least temporarily, return to the state of your original contract. Then when you reupgrade to the new phone the clock/contract starts anew. That's why people who used their last upgrade on the SGS3 better be reasonably sure its what they want because now there's no going back, at least for an exchange.

I'm starting to think if it weren't for AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile then Verizon would've waited until 6/28 or later to launch the SGS3 and/or open it up for pre-orders. If unlimited data is that important though sell the Rezound and pay retail for the Inc 4G.

You are right, they would have. The rez is better than the Inc 4g, no need to return anything

I am sorry I did not post this sooner but I was backed into a corner and was fuming over it as well. Although it is too late to help anyone I will post this anyway and maybe it will give some of you some ideas for the future. By the way I am a former Verizon employee.

I too was eligible for upgrade in December and out of contract in April and am still rocking the original Incredible. I was planning on waiting for the 4g Incredible and like so many others saw no benefit to Verizon's new shared data and was not willing to lose my unlimited.

Here is what I did:

1. I researched which phones have the highest resale value online at full retail (non-contract) price. My research concluded it is currently the Samsung S3 with an average selling price $648 (according to eBay).

2. I have two lines, each with the original Incredible and I have the extended warranties. I called Verizon and got them to replace both Incredible's under the warranty. I will sell these two factory refurbished phones as a pair with all the extra batteries and accessories on eBay for an estimated $200. Which is conservative and I will probably get a little more.

3. I have 2 lines of service so before the 28th I pre-ordered 2 S3s. I purchased them at $199.99 plus Verizon's we're making record profits and paid no taxes on our income and need to charge our long-term customers $30 to upgrade their phones fee! Totaling $229.99

4. I am currently selling them through auctions on eBay and the auctions closed at $580 to be shipped to the winner as soon as Verizon ships them. Totaling $1140 in proceeds from my auction.

5. I purchase the Incredible 4g at full retail at Verizon and bill it to my account when it is released. Full retail is expected to be 549.99.

6. Pay the bill for with proceeds from auctions totaling $1140.

Net cost of BOTH new Incredible 4g Phones = 199.99 (not including taxes)

It is a lot of buying and selling and a small amount of risk but I ended up getting the equivalent of Buy One Get One Free Incredible 4G phones with waived $30 upgrade Fee and I kept my Unlimited Data for at least the next 2 years. At which I am sure Verizon will figure out a new creative way screw its loyalest customers. All in all I am a happy camper.

Now for why I went with the Incredible 4g instead of the Galaxy S3 which a bunch of you traitors are jumping ship for:

1. Although we are waiting for confirmation but sources indicate that the Dinc 4g comes with an under-clocked S4 processor that is identical to the Galaxy S3

2. The screen is only .8mm bigger "diagonally" which honestly I couldn't care less about because the overall difference it makes in the size of the phone makes it uncomfortable to keep in my pocket.

3. The pixel density is negligibly more than the dinc 4g but on a larger screen. This means the qHD screen will look just as sharp in 4" as the Galaxy S3 in 4.8".

4. The memory is double in galaxy S3 which I like. Galaxy wins here.

5. The larger screen will likely take up any processing/ memory benefit seen in galaxy S3 and will be side by side comparable in performance. Larger screen with, although negligible, more pixels and more pixels equal more processor power to run.

6. The best selling phone on the market is the iPhone. People like it for its size and abilities. This is the first phone that compares in capability yet remains a manageable phone size (unless your a lady that carries a purse in which case you should get the Galaxy Note anyway).

7. The battery difference of 300mA is also negligible considering the additional power needed to power the larger screen. Granted you may see a small benefit to the extra miliamps but this is likely not going to be a noticeable difference.

8. TouchWiz sucks. Sense 4.0 rocks. I almost would have considered the Galaxy S3 if they had a stable version of Sense 4.0 for it but considering as of now they have not created a stable version for the Galaxy S2, I am not betting it is going to happen anytime soon.

I hope I have contributed something for the awesome people here to think about and look forward to the discussion that follows.

The screen is better on the Rezound. The camera is exactly the same. Everything else (both hardware & software) is better on the Inc 4G.

the dinc4g has the krait s4 28nm with lte on chip. the rez has the s3 45nm with separate lte radio.

Or you just do what I did:

I ordered the Galaxy Nexus last week (on the 27th) Verizon just let me swap for this phone a few minutes ago. I got dinged with the $35 restocking fee, but IT DOES NOT AFFECT YOUR CONTRACT since they process it as an exchange so I get to keep my unlimited!

So I repeat, if you do an EXCHANGE within the 14 day worry free guarantee, they will ding you the restocking fee ($35) but it does not affect your contract, (i.e. my contract still expires 6/27/2014) so you get to keep unlimited, at least lets hope the VZW rep didn't lie to me!
