vzw employee view on delay

Bugs have never stopped verizon before. See the bionic bug fix? no need to bull for verizon. Plain and simple bugs or not if they wanted to release the phone they would... Network outage yet they released a 4g tablet? Come on man you work for verizon at least come up with a better excuse than that...

Indeed understandable but there may be more to this software then other phones may have needed. Maybe secuirty reasons. Maybe me experiencing very frequent data drops is a huge issue that they need to fix and felt that it was too consistant in dropping that it wasn't worth releasing yet..

Ill give it a good day of use tomorrow to see how it works and I see anymore consistant data drops.

Charge and bionic both had that issue yet they still released both of those......

It's so false. They would have sorted Wallet our during the months when they were negotiating getting this device to VZW. Also, Wallet disputes would mean sending those devices back and not ever selling them if Google and VZW couldn't agree. Protip: both sides spent a lot of money in this exchange and aren't willing to waste it all; they want to sell us the device.

The only thing that makes sense is that the LTE radio firmware is having massive issues. LTE network was down last week, too, which I don't see as a complete separated incident; the two are very much related.

We'll hopefully see the Nexus this week assuming the experience isn't total crap after the latest OTA. I really hope though that Verizon figures out a means to help OEMs build their LTE radio firmware moving forward, especially if they are no longer accepting 3G phones on their network.

Actually the Charge was delayed due to a 4G LTE outage back when it was supposed to launch and came out a week or so later. I know because I bought one and here I am again waiting to get the GNexus.

Could it be software related, possibly, its not like Samsung hasn't had issues pushing out updates in the past. I know these are coming from Google to Verizon who is going to extra check then release (don't like that part) but in the end if it fails to launch on the 15th I will rent a RAZR or Rezound and hope it comes out before 1/15/12.

I'm sorry but what you are saying is false. The fact is Verizon and Google had a very public disagreement about Google wallet where both companies made diametrically opposing statements. This was this past Thursday.

The fact is that they already made up their minds about this long ago during the planning of the Nexus. It isn't like Google went "OH BTW VERIZON! We want Google Wallet in the Nexus tomorrow, two days before 12/9 launch!" and Verizon responded "NOPE! We are holding back launch to discuss this further!" The Wallet concern was settled long ago and we only heard a single statement from each company about it last week because the blogosphere constantly contacted both companies.

The fact that the LTE network was down last week and that every single LTE handset seems to have radio issues is why this Nexus has been delayed. Holding back a sale because of something that was settled months ago is bad for the business of all four companies involved (TI included), especially since all of these retailers already have the device in stock.

I wouldn't make this out to be more than it really is. Again, every other LTE phone (not sure about Revolution) has had delays related to their LTE signals and/or the LTE network, and it seems the Nexus is suffering the same problem. My only guess is that the CDMA <-> LTE handoff is an absolutely terrible mess as the two technologies aren't related at all (whereas GSM <-> LTE should be smoother and more intuitive).

Anyone that thinks the continued delay is due to Wallet is better off buying an LG Accolade. It's the phone best suited to their intelligence.

Anyone that thinks the delay is due to software/LTE issues should stick to the original RAZR. They're having LTE issues yet they release a highly anticipated (in their opinion, face it, we're the very small minority) 4G tablet. One by Motorola at that. Yeah. Not likely.

I'm sorry, but the dispute over Google Wallet is most likely the reasoning behind the delay. Aside from the fact that several insiders within Google AND Verizon have said that this is the reasoning, there's simply no other valid reason for the delay. Software bugs? People with the device already are reporting it runs flawlessly. 4G network? It's been running smooth since Thursday morning, they released two 4G tablets, and they're not stopping activation of other 4G devices.

The Charge was indeed delayed due to 4G issues, but that was when 4G was still in it's infancy stages, it was the first MAJOR nationwide outage, and only the second phone to be released with 4G. They had a valid reason to delay it. The network is definitely not the reason, as Phil reported in another thread. Once again, consumers the got the phone early have reported NO issues with signal, LTE, or CDMA. The phone is working flawlessly.

The delay isn't because of other products (as many verizon conspiracy theories seem to believe) and it's not because of software bugs or the LTE network. Obviously Google isn't okay with what Verizon did with Google Wallet (it's their product, why would they be? Especially on their developer phone) and is making a huge deal out of it, which made a pretty large public outcry in the blogosphere (you don't think Verizon checks these websites?) Most likely, Verizon is reimplementing Google Wallet OR working something out with Google to maybe have Google Wallet reenabled by the user (possibly similar to the way we lock/unlock the Nexus). Which, ideally, would allow for a launch next week, because the hardware/software is there, just not configured to be enabled.

Although, it's also possible they're waiting on more supply for stores after seeing the demand for this phone this previous week.

This isn't directed at the post I quoted, but it's hilarious how many people think Verizon is intentionally delaying this phone. I would've believed it two weeks ago, but Verizon is desperately trying to get this phone on the market now, and December 9th WAS the target. They're a company, they want to make money.

Perhaps the delay IS over Goggle Wallet and if it is I hope Verizon makes a decision in agreement with the net neutrality law and lets Wallet on the phone. Some consumers are idiots but most of us ARE NOT.

Put Wallet on the phone, then make ISIS BETTER. Isn't that the USA Capitalist way? Make ISIS better...more functionality at about the same or less cost. Do this and people will chose to use ISIS over Wallet.

Don't tell us we can't use something because you don't want us to. Oh yeah it's not secure...as if you have ever been in the Information systems phone security business? OH you prevent phone hacking or a virus from coming down to our phones?...Uh HUH....yeah. So that would mean that we could never download anything from the Market unless Verizon checked it out first. See this happening?....NO.

We get to choose who we buy gasoline from. I can buy clothes at Bloomingdales, Macys, Target a mom and pop local store or Walmart, We are not buying our food from a government run store...we choose the corporation store we buy it from... Winn Dixie, Piggly Wiggley, Superfresh...whatever... We buy products made by Kraft, General Mills.,Campbells..... We can buy items from Europe if we pay a lot to have it shipped.

We choose who we get long distance phone service from..... We choose our ISP. Heck I get to choose who generates my electricity...and now with Verizon I can't choose how I swipe my credit card?

If they want folks to use ISIS then MAKE IT BETTER THAN WALLET and make us WANT to use if over wallet. That's the USA capitalistic society way.

Well the is great possible evidence of liquid water on mars Universe Today

Nah definitely the reason for the delay was a Miley Cyrus concert and Verizon employee had to go.

or maybe lindsay lohan is preggo that could be why too

You act like they wouldn't have discussed this at negotiations???? Plus only the sprint nexus s has google wallet at&t or tmo doesn't so according to you that should have never launched....

Every week there is a new speculated truth for the delay....bugs..money....network down.....bugs again....google wallet...it has to come to an end sometime. I still put my bet on money. Verizon is waiting to the last possible minute to put a phone on the market that will make their other phones obsolete (meaning ICS). They know once they start having to pimp the GN and inform customers that it has the latest and greatest Android OS, sales will start gravitating toward the Nexus.

I think what you say is partially true but most people when they walk into a store have no idea what ICS or GB is. They look at the one that looks the nicest or what they see the most commercials for and then buy that. The others will still sell, and verizon will probably drop the price of those down to $249 to try adn grab more sales.

Verizon should simply let the manufacturers duke it out and let the winners prevail rather than trying to manipulate the market. Isn't that how markets work. Too many phones out there.... A winnoeing out is due and should be welcome. If they are trying to pick winners and losers Verizon may be the loser of customers in the end.

Nah... Premium1 is right, this isn't that big a deal. Eavesdrop on other shoppers... I've never heard anyone ask about what OS is running on a phone, and when I ask, you get the "don't worry it will be upgraded" answer, which would sway most of the few that even know about OS (not knowing how long it might take to upgrade). Heck, even the girl selling phones at Costco couldn't answer questions about the OS on the phones.... kinda tells me how little it comes up.

If/when the phone is released, if Verizon does any advertising, I'll bet they don't mention the OS at all... just highlight some of the new features.... fast camera, face unlock, etc. OS is waaaaaay down on the list of what's looked for in a phone.

Most purchasers of phones don't do the type of research we do. They see something shiny and go "woooooooooooo"

Thus explains the iPhone sales figures

I'd imagine any ad for it would include somewhere that it is Android 4.0 or even the first phone with Android 4.0, but it wouldn't be the main point of the ad. Then people will be like "wait I just got updated to 2.3 and they already have 4?"... or not

The iPhone is a great phone. I played with one the other day and it was actually really nice. iOS felt a little too confined for my taste and the screen definitely wasn't big enough, but I can see the appeal. We need to stop generalizing people who buy other phones. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is a bad product.

I had an i4 and i4s. Great is a little much. It is a good phone but with a glorified app launcher it does not need much to run smooth. If apple added lte and a larger screen than maybe i would switch back but the size now is to small. Will be interesting to see if rumors hold true of an all new os overhaul for ios6.
