The fact is that they already made up their minds about this long ago during the planning of the Nexus. It isn't like Google went "OH BTW VERIZON! We want Google Wallet in the Nexus tomorrow, two days before 12/9 launch!" and Verizon responded "NOPE! We are holding back launch to discuss this further!" The Wallet concern was settled long ago and we only heard a single statement from each company about it last week because the blogosphere constantly contacted both companies.
The fact that the LTE network was down last week and that every single LTE handset seems to have radio issues is why this Nexus has been delayed. Holding back a sale because of something that was settled months ago is bad for the business of all four companies involved (TI included), especially since all of these retailers already have the device in stock.
I wouldn't make this out to be more than it really is. Again, every other LTE phone (not sure about Revolution) has had delays related to their LTE signals and/or the LTE network, and it seems the Nexus is suffering the same problem. My only guess is that the CDMA <-> LTE handoff is an absolutely terrible mess as the two technologies aren't related at all (whereas GSM <-> LTE should be smoother and more intuitive).
Anyone that thinks the continued delay is due to Wallet is better off buying an LG Accolade. It's the phone best suited to their intelligence.
Anyone that thinks the delay is due to software/LTE issues should stick to the original RAZR. They're having LTE issues yet they release a highly anticipated (in their opinion, face it, we're the very small minority) 4G tablet. One by Motorola at that. Yeah. Not likely.
I'm sorry, but the dispute over Google Wallet is most likely the reasoning behind the delay. Aside from the fact that several insiders within Google AND Verizon have said that this is the reasoning, there's simply no other valid reason for the delay. Software bugs? People with the device already are reporting it runs flawlessly. 4G network? It's been running smooth since Thursday morning, they released two 4G tablets, and they're not stopping activation of other 4G devices.
The Charge was indeed delayed due to 4G issues, but that was when 4G was still in it's infancy stages, it was the first MAJOR nationwide outage, and only the second phone to be released with 4G. They had a valid reason to delay it. The network is definitely not the reason, as Phil reported in another thread. Once again, consumers the got the phone early have reported NO issues with signal, LTE, or CDMA. The phone is working flawlessly.
The delay isn't because of other products (as many verizon conspiracy theories seem to believe) and it's not because of software bugs or the LTE network. Obviously Google isn't okay with what Verizon did with Google Wallet (it's their product, why would they be? Especially on their developer phone) and is making a huge deal out of it, which made a pretty large public outcry in the blogosphere (you don't think Verizon checks these websites?) Most likely, Verizon is reimplementing Google Wallet OR working something out with Google to maybe have Google Wallet reenabled by the user (possibly similar to the way we lock/unlock the Nexus). Which, ideally, would allow for a launch next week, because the hardware/software is there, just not configured to be enabled.
Although, it's also possible they're waiting on more supply for stores after seeing the demand for this phone this previous week.
This isn't directed at the post I quoted, but it's hilarious how many people think Verizon is intentionally delaying this phone. I would've believed it two weeks ago, but Verizon is desperately trying to get this phone on the market now, and December 9th WAS the target. They're a company, they want to make money.
