SO in 24 hours, the iPhone lands on Verizon before my Epic (August release) even gets 2.2...
I know that people are going to say that I/we should have known better relying on Samsung's updates, but this is unreal.

The only positive news I can get now is that they have chosen to forgo the Galaxy S update to push Gingerbread by the spring.
Android usershare on Verizon will undoubtedly take a hit, so maybe other carriers will want to pick up the slack and put some pressure on developers?...

I personally hope so as well.
Lately it seems all they care about is selling more phones (which I understand)... They can't sell you a new one if you can upgrade your old one... Samsung sold over 10 million and is now aiming for 60 Million...

I don't think I want a rushed Froyo. Read all the posts where people are having problems with the unofficial leaked versions out.

yeah, i did the DK28 update myself and had to ODIN back to stock. It was very buggy. GPS didnt work, camera took forever, and the pages would lag big time when switching with basic TW.

not sure what you had but my dk28 flies. Camera works great, gps locks in 3 seconds and gets as accurate at 22ft inside my house. I have no issues with mine.

Exactly. Same here. Granted, I'm running a custom ROM now, but I ran stock dk28 for a while and everything was awesome! I heard all of the horror stories that everyone was having with dk28 and figured I'd hold out, but after that December 26th froyo arrival fail, I said the heck with it and flashed unofficial. Haven't been back to 2.1 since.

DK28 has had mixed results, a lot of it appears to be dependent on how you go about flashing it and what your setup was prior to flashing it. Either way, I don't see the big deal with Verizon landing the iPhone, especially when you pin it up against a lack of update for the Epic. I'd be more peeved if the next gen of Samsung Galaxy Phones releases or is announced before an update.

Next gen will be announced at MWC next month. Do you really think we will see froyo before then? Clearly they are struggling with it and must be split into two teams: one trying to create a stable 2.2 for the Epic and another exploring the idea of bypassing and offering 2.3 - either way, the announcement will definitely come first. IMHO

In all honesty, no I don't. I fully expect to not receive Froyo before that announcement, and I am totally prepared for it. I said it in another thread too, but I've given up caring about Froyo a long time ago. I don't let it bother me too much anymore, but lesson learned.

I already have 2.2.1 on my Epic.

Maybe do a lil' browsing in the Hacks/Roms section before making a pointless thread.

Not everyone wants to root/install unofficial updates, so this topic is valid for those people. No need to call the thread pointless because you have different views than the OP.

Very true, I have tried a few Roms and such, but to be honest, I would really love a stable stock 2.2 that is just as stable as the 2.1 that came on my phone and most likely would have never rooted if it came with 2.2...

When automakers release new engines, transmissions, etc., issues are often discovered that hackers can sometimes fix by making changes to the engine computer's programming. Are you saying that everyone who bought those vehicles should just shut up about the issues because there are hacks available to sort of/kind of fix them?

Seriously, come on now. The Epic has issues that, presumably, will be fixed with an update, as well as features and functionality that have pretty much been promised from Sprint and Samsung. It's silly to take the companies off the hook for providing the update simply because some enterprising souls managed to hack leaked ROMs and such into kind of/sort of working.

Agree, I've given up caring about the few advancements that Froyo offered.. I like the Epic and I will continue to use it until my upgrade comes. And as you state, lesson learned regarding whats available and the choice I make next time I upgrade..... I will go with the manufacturer that has their software together.

Yeah well I prefer having good hardware that can handle future software from developers. The HTC Evo cannot handle anything anymore. Htc devices have the worst hardware in the industry, using cheaper glass, cheaper touch sensors, cheaper camera quality, cheaper processors and no gpu. I used to have an evo, so I know. Samsung used superior equipment aside from the shell. I can actually handle new games like dungeon defenders and will be able to handle applications that take a good gpu to be used. I can also take much nicer photos and much MUCH nicer videos, and my screen is gorgeous. Not to mention that I get more than 8 hours of battery life. I know some care about software updates, but I prefer a solid hardware that doesn't suck at performance and quality.
