Has anyone else noticed that VZW is now only doing mail-in rebates. There is no online instant rebate anymore, you have to mail it in either way.

The last rebate I got from Verizon was for the Inc and that was a gift card so I haven't noticed the change. Mail in rebates don't bother me as long as I get my $$$ one way or another.

Yea but if you buy the phone online you get the instant rebate, now you have to mail it in either way.

Well that does suck. Maybe it was hurting VZW's corp stores too much? I never buy my phones online anyway.Only thru "bricks and mortar" retailers.

I only purchase throught the phone (611) and they are mail in as well. They usually take care of you better b/c they are higher on the ladder than the VZW store manager. When I bought my Inc they wouldn't sell to me at the store, and they told me to call b/c they have more options. (We upgraded and added a new line and wanted to switch the BOGO Inc to an original number. Store wouldn't do it, but the phone rep said no problem!)

It looks like it depends on the phone. If you call or buy online for the DInc it's an instant rebate, but if you go in to the store it's a $100 MIR. But the Droid X is all mail-in online and in the store.

I just think its stupid, they used to be instant rebate because reps didn't have to do any work. Now they are just trying to get money due to the fact people forget or just do not do the mail in rebates so VZW will pocket that extra 100 bucks off those people.

That's what I like about Best Buy. They give instant rebate even when you buy in-store.

Exactly...although my $100 rebate came in less than 2 weeks from the date I mailed it, so that was impressive.

Used the "gift card" to pay my first bill :)

Actually, it's that the in-store rep didn't want to waste time doing all the work to move around the phones and accounts when they could be selling a new phone to someone else. Was once told by someone working in a VZW corp store that if they couldn't close the deal in 20 min or less they shuffled the people off to the csr svc number.

It may have to do with part of the rebate coming from the manufacturer (either HTC or Motorola).

My boys are due for upgrades next month and I've already decided to order their phones from Wirefly. They have amazing prices. I have a friend who got hers from them who said their customer service was awesome. She had to return and replace her daughter's phone and it went without a hitch.

No rebates to mess with and great prices.

That's never been my experience. They always take as much time with me as they need, even when it is busy, and I think I have used the upgrade from the line I actually put the phone on maybe twice in all my years with VZW.

No, it has to do with the fact that only about a third of them are ever actually paid out. a third of them or so are never sent in and about half of those that are are rejected for some reason (sent late, didn't send real rebate form or upc off of box, didn't fill out right, etc.). They know this and want more money.

The only bigger scam in the cellular business than rebates is text (not MMS) messaging which is actually free to the carrier because it uses existing data packets.
