Forgive me as usual. If the rumors (or facts) are true about the upcoming release of the HTC Incredible HD with LTE capabilities .... if such is the case, can one purchase that phone on the normal $29/month data plan and NOT try to use the LTE technology which seems to cost $50/month?

I've read a few articles which gave little info.....

Thanks in advance!

I don't believe anyone outside of internal VZW knows for sure yet since there are no LTE Phones. VZW might take the Sprint approach and make at least a minimum LTE plan (tax?) a requirement, even if you don't get it yet, or they might let you pass on it. Only time will tell.

The question is, "Is there a way to disable the 4G access without killing the 3G access? If so, would it be easy for the customer to "undo" the hack?"

That will probably determine if you can buy a 4G phone and only use/pay for 3G service. Sprint won't let you do it...Verizon...we will need to wait.

The $50 fee you are hearing is for their LTE modem, not phone.

From what I heard, the DINC HD(and other 4G devices) will run on 3G with the LTE card slot available for those who want to upgrade to using 4G data.(Notice how the 4 and the dollar sign are on the same key? :D )

Unless you can't take it anymore I would hold off for anouther 60 days and you should start to see alot of new options. Even if it's a 4G phone you don't have to use the 4G. My Dinc is great, but it's old technology already. Why buy something that is outdated when you take it out of the box if you have a choice.

this is the first of any "slot" that i have heard of. Please list the source?

1. The $50 price is only for modems, no one knows pricing on phone data yet. They did not change the modem plans at all when LTE launched, and we can only hope they do the same for phones. Although somehow, I think not..

2. A 3G-only option for 4G phones is very interesting. At first, you wouldn't think they would ever do something like that, but it would be technically possible, since they are dual-mode phones. But I doubt Verizon will institute a you-put-your-SIM-in-so-now-we're-gonna-charge-you-for-4G type of deal. You'll likely be able to yank the card to conserve battery life if you don't want to use 4G at that time, but I think that'll be the extent of it.

LTE phones and modems use micro SIM cards.

My big question is will it have gingerbread. We don't even have the new sense so I'm hard pressed to believe this will have 2.3 when it releases. Also, knowing that honeycomb is right around the corner, its possible this phone will be two upgrades behind.
