I am eligible for a new phone this month...I was wondering if...

I should hold on to my dinc until after mwc or go for the rezound now...I want an HTC quad core but not sure what to do....will there even be one for VZW anytime soon?

Help?

I'd jump on it. Mine is blazing on 4g and wifi and is no slouch on 3g. Beats sounds great with my kind of music (hard rock and old school country), and the display looks great. There's always something bigger, faster, stronger coming, so waiting doesn't make sense to me.

I would wait. Seems like Verizon comes out with a new phone once every two weeks. Im sure HTC has a quad core, ICS device coming soon.

Tough decision. Having the Rezound makes it easy to recommend it.

Plus: It has the best network connectivity of any phone out right now. Great screen. Best GPS I've had on a phone. I'm hard of hearing and have no problem hearing with the Rezound. Unlocked bootloader and good dev support if you want to root it. Prices are dropping on the Rezound & new quad cores will cost a lot more. Too many good points to list them all.

Minus: Battery life is not good. If you use it for any kind of heavy usage at all, you'll need the extended battery. There have been reports of overheating, but this is a dual core, 1.5G phone with a high res screen, so I wonder if increased temps aren't to be expected. Also, HTC is known for using underpowered batteries in their phones.

Quad Core: Everything is unknown at this time. There probably aren't going to be many apps that take advantage of the quad cores for awhile and I don't know that they'll perform any faster than the Rezound in every day use. Possibly better battery life and cooler temps? Newer phones may have better cameras if that's important to you. The joys and frustrations of being an early adopter.

If you even think you might get the Rezound and then wish you'd waited, you should probably wait. You're going to have it for two years.

Quad cores on phones are just something to brag about, there's no practical use for them.
Hell, even dual core is unnecessary. The second core is offline until needed, which is rare. Gingerbread doesn't even fully support dual core, so we don't even get the full benefit of it yet.
If you're planning on somehow emulating Skyrim or Battlefield on your phone, then wait for quad core. If not, go ahead and upgrade.

I wish people more understood why and what, you posted here. I've said the same thing for ages in forums and sites. For some reason, it always falls on deaf ears. Hopefully, they'll see what your talking about when ICS rolls into town. If HTC doesn't botch ICS integration somehow, I'm sure it will be apparent. Not exactly blow your mind differences but as dated as the S3 chipset is, it's gonna be interesting.

Personally, I can't wait til ICS runs stable enough to see some overclocking on the S3. I liked what I saw when the S3 got overclocked on the SGSII to 1.8ghz. I don't know why GN users aren't foaming at the mouth for some overclocking on the underclocked TI 4460. Then again, maybe they don't wanna burn out the crappy GPU in the GN.:)

I'd say wait it out. The Rezound isn't going away anytime soon (I don't think) and if your Inc is still going strong why fork out the extra cash?

From what I've seen there is still a trickle of development going on for the Inc and if you get itchy about having latest/greatest blah blah just load up on ICS-Deck ROM...when I ran it on my Inc (at least a month ago or more) it was stable enough for a daily driver and it was Ice Cream Sandwich!

VZW will drop the price of their current offerings to make room for the new ones announced. Either way it's a win-win for you to wait a little bit longer. And if you question VZW dropping prices then just look at their track record for the past year. Wait and save money, or wait and buy something brand spanking new.

The Rezound certainly has a LOT of get-up-and-go on ICS. Those of us running ICS ROMs are posting higher benchmarks than the GNexus folks. :)

True, for the time being, I'd still say that the 4460 in the GNex will surpass the S3, when they start overclocking them.

If you aren't set on buying directly from Verizon, you can see substantial price savings even on a newly released phone going third party. I bought the Rezound for $ 50 on upgrade less than 2 weeks after its release. For New customers, it has been a penny before. Of course, pricing promotions vary greatly, so as always, ymmv.

That's ironic, I'm winning ics deck right now :)

I came from the Droid Incredible and the difference between that and the Rezound is day and night. The enlarged screen size alone is enough to make me want to switch, nevermind all the other enhancements.

I'd say we are looking at least until Q3 2012 for a worthwhile improvement to the Rezound in terms of reduced circuitry so a battery much larger can fit into the existing Rezound size. Just merely stuffing a quad core inside isn't particularly attractive to me. Camera on the Rezound probably wont be improved for a while as well.

I also would like to see some type of webtop functionality like some of the Droids. This is seriously lacking with HTCs. We are at the point where a phone can truly substitute for a laptop given peripheral support. Again, I don't see this being adopted anytime soon.

So if you want to wait until September then fine.. but that might as well be an eternity for me. Also, don't forget about being in the endless "upgrade" loop like a guy still using a B&W TV waiting to buy a new set because that new fangled thing called 1080p will eventually get surpassed by a newer technology.

I had the same dilemma. I opted for getting the RZ now, and I am pleased with it. My Dinc is still great, but the RZ is so much better. I found out if you keep waiting around for the next big thing, it will be hard to pull the trigger, while waiting for the next bigger thing.
