'Waiting: HTC One_M8 is busy' when moving files over USB

I am trying to transfer the photos stored on my phone's internal memory over to my microSD card to free up some space. I am trying to do this using windows explorer. When I initiate the move though, I am greeted with the message 'Waiting: HTC One_M8 is busy'. This happens with or without USB debugging enabled. My phone is running a recently flashed HD Revolution 43.0 rom (Android Version 5.0.1). It should be noted that the reason I need to free up some space is so that I can do a nandroid backup before flashing an updated firmware, as from my understanding my current one is not recent enough to run this rom without issues (a fact I missed before flashing). My wifi only works very occasionally at present due to this issue, so it is feasible USB transfer has also been affected.

Please advise on how I can do this transfer.

USB transferring should not be affected by a weak WiFi connection or correlate to it. Are you trying to transfer the data directly to the SD Card? If you are trying to transfer data directly to the SDCard, I suggest you transfer the data first to your computer and later after you flash the firmware and restore (or re-flash since you never know...) you can just transfer the data to your SDCard. Also, make sure you have the proper drivers for your device. If you are not sure if you do, install HTC Sync from the HTC Website. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

P.S Like you stated, make a backup in recovery before you flash anything just in case something goes wrong.

Re: 'Waiting: HTC One_M8 is busy' when moving files over USB

Has anyone found a solution to the actual problem posted by whitebloodcell? I have an HTC One M8 that's brand new (an insurance replacement). I recently upgraded my laptop operating system to Windows 10 Pro (64 bit). Either coincidentally or not, I'm now experiencing the problem reported by whitebloodcell - trying to move or copy files from one folder to another on the device doesn't work. I either get the message whitebloodcell reports (Waiting: HTC One_M8 is busy) or the task never completes and I get the repeating progress bar over and over.

I also note that there appear to be several drivers missing on my laptop since upgrading to Windows 10 that I think, but can't confirm, are associated with connecting the HTC One to my laptop. I've updated everything I can, including HTC Sync. The "unknown devices" without drivers that I think are associated with the phone are: FuturedialDMI, MAP SMS/MMS, PandoraLink and Sync Proxy.

Like I said, I'm not sure if the problem with using Windows file explorer to move and copy files on the HTC is because of the update to Windows 10 or has some other cause. However, this function worked until very recently and the only thing I've changed is the July 29 upgrade to Windows 10.

Paradoxically, I can move and copy files between the HTC phone and my laptop using Windows file explorer. It is only moving and copying internally on the device that is affected.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note II, and I'm experiencing the same issue moving files as described with your HTC One. Likewise, this was a feature that worked fine for me until right about the time I upgraded to Windows 10, so I'm thinking that it isn't a coincidence.

I'm having the same issue with my HTC One M9 and it is definitely tied to a recent upgrade to Windows 10, as I can still connect and copy files ONTO my phone at work (Windows 7) and a spare laptop (Windows 8.1). I used to be able to connect my HTC One M to my desktop (was Windows 8.1) directly with USB cable, and was able to connect, copy file FROM and ONTO my phone. Now, with recent Windows 10 update, I can connect ... and I can copy files FROM my phone onto the desktop, but I cannot copy files ONTO my phone. This includes "internal" and SD card.

And it's NOT the cable. ;)

Any suggestions on a workaround here?

Thanks everyone!

I just tried Window 10 Phone Companion app ..... phone connects OK, can see files OK, can copy files FROM phone onto PC, but cannot copy files from PC to phone. Damn Windows 10 !! #Oooogatz

just got off chat with HTC Customer Service. Zero help. Claimed they "heard of this issue but NOT with HTC phones" then told me to go "contact Microsoft to figure it out".

uh, thanks. :'(

It's a Windows 10 issue. I have exactly the same problem with my Galaxy S4.
If I connect the phone to my windows 10 PC, then I can copy files from the PC to the SD card and vice versa, however I cannot move/copy the files on the SD card to the SD card or do any other 'internal' operations. Just get the message 'Waiting: Galaxy S4 is busy'. Most annoying.

Used to be able to do this fine with windows 7.

Lots of other niggling problems with windows 10 too.......

Now getting this problem on my Nexus 6P just today. Found this thread with a google search, haven't actually seen any other threads on any sites talking about this issue. can copy files from 6p to the computer, but not back to the phone. even weirder, i used the same function last week and everything transferred fine, it was still windows 10 pro 64 bit. not sure of a fix, but could it possibly have something to do with usb 3.0? maybe if i downgrade this usb port to 2.0 in the UEFI, it will work, at least for the time being. something to think about even though it did work last week. i finally gave up and just uploaded my work to a file on my google drive, and will just pull it back down at work tomorrow. thank God for the cloud.

Same problem on my 6P w/ Windows 10

  • Workaround is download ES File Explorer from app store https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ls?id=com.estrongs.android.pop&token=A-4iNAhk
  • in that app 3 bar on left/Remote Manager/Turn ON it will give you an FTP address (like ftp://192.168.1.20:3721)

on computer go to windows explorer/This PC/ right click in white area / ADD A NETWORK CONNECTION
type in the ftp from above.
Give it a name NEXUS FTP
now it will show in your explorer on computer. If you have "Turned on" the ftp within ES explorer above you should be able to explore/copy/move/delete files on the Nexus.
Anytime you want to use this in the future, you just have to be sure it is turned on within ES explorer.

Re: 'Waiting: HTC One_M8 is busy' when moving files over USB

Update. Switched cables and it now transfers just fine.

That worked for me --> transferring it to the computer and then back to the phone.

Phone folder to phone folder kept freezing.

Same. Seems to be a W10 issue where it gets stuck in a loop saying the phone is busy. Of course its busy its asking for one part of the phone to goto another part of the phone. Phone > Desktop > SD Card worked fine. **** Windows!
