Waiting on my Hero

I am sitting here waiting for Mr. Brown Truck to bring me my Hero. This is my first Android device so I'm really excited. I've had Blackberry Curves in the past along with WM devices. I'm currently using a Rumor 2 and have missed having a smartphone dearly. I've already made my list of apps I want to install, have my embarrassingly hot pink silicone case and my Zagg screen protector and am ready to go for the most part. Although I will be attempting the screen protector *after* my kids are in bed. :p

I know I'm late to the game in getting the Hero as it's pretty much old news now with the Evo coming out but with Sprint Premier I get an upgrade every year so I figure I can upgrade later if I want to. Also, I used my husbands 2 year upgrade for this one and my Sprint Premier upgrade for my line is due July 1st. My hope is that I can get my husband hooked on Android and have him take my Hero and me get an Evo when the bugs are worked out and the price is cheaper.

Is there anything I need to know before my Hero gets here? Should I let it charge before I even turn it on? I'm browsing the forums now to see if there are any apps that I must have.

You don't have to let it charge, it comes halfway charged. It wont last extremely long afterwards. I remember going to the mall shortly after getting mine and it died. You can set it up without it being plugged in. If you want to root it, I recommend having it plenty charged as even if you have it plugged in, the process of flashing ROM's doesn't allow simultaneous battery charging. If you want help with rooting/ROMing(i would play with it first, see if you can handle its speed/ lack of apps) I'm here to help, just hit me up with a PM.

You can setup your Hero online. It's very easy, follow the directions in the box. I'd browse some of the editor choice articles on this site to learn more about the available apps.

Thanks Rufflez! I think I may get brave enough to root one of these days. I've been trying to read up on it at night but am a little chicken. I think once I get the device and get comfortable with the OS I'll get braver though.

Thank you! I've been trying to do as much research as I could beforehand but have a feeling I will learn a lot more when I actually get it. There is so much info out there!

Hello and welcome...

Just got my Hero on Wednesday rooted it on Thursday. The forums (I.e. The people) are fantastic. This is my first post here and I'm doing it on my ipad while tethered to the Hero.

I'm finding documents to go app very useful for full read/write of ms office files.

Also a good task manager - I am using the advanced task manager free version. Both apps are available in the market.

Enjoy your Hero....
