Wakelocks?

So I've been doing some reading into battery life and wakelocks etc. Still very newb to it. I got greenify to hibernate some of the bloat running. I downloaded "wakelock - power manager", but it's Egyptian to me. Is the gist of it that I can choose to put my phone in a give state manually? Not sure what/when I'd use each though. Any help?

It looks like the app keeps a full wakelock on the device to either keep the screen on indefinitely or run wifi full blast. Doing either will drain your battery.
