Waking the screen when receiving text/email

Just wondering if there is a way to get the screen to come on for 5-10 seconds like on the iPhone when I get an alert. I do like that about my iPhone 4, but I am sure there is a way to change it.

The mail client I use is AquaMail, in case that matters. It probably might.

Yes, there are apps for this (eg. Screen Notification) but unfortunately, the One has a bug with accessibility settings that stuffs the locksreen. Hopefully HTC will fix this bug!

Still new to Android, lol. What does that mean exactly, the app won't work? Or that the screen was intended to come on but a bug is why it doesn't?

edit: Okay, so what I gather is that it's things under Accessibility Services that breaks it. I don't have anything listed there, am I supposed to? It says "no services installed". I'm not sure what this means.

_SMS wakeup for SMS only
_Notifier Plus Pro. However this app will prevent you from dragging icon in lockscreen, you just have to tap to enter the phone

Textra does this wonderfully! I spent countless hours searching for a workaround, tried them all (SMS wakeup, SMS popup, Screen Notifications) and I finally settled with the SMS app Textra.

I use SMSAwake. It does nothing but switch the screen on for a survivors amount if time when s text comes in. It works perfectly - I've had it on every phone since my Nexus One :)

With textra does that do emails as well ? I'm not looking to change the stock messaging app either just something that will turn my screen on for 5 seconds when I get an email or text message
