Alright peeps I'm going to see what all you pros have to say about this. I've had my Fascinate rooted for a while now and have been too "afraid" to explore any farther. Right now I'm running SC2.8 EB01. I want to be able to speed my phone up.. I have SetCPU on my phone but not sure how that works. I'm just interested in hearing or seeing what some of you have on your fascinate. What combos are working for you. I'm using the non-voodoo by the way. I want to take that next step so I don't have that "noob status/feeling" lol.

Thanks in advance.

Also... I'd really like to get back to the original calculator.. I read it somewhere and now I can't find how to do that :-/

Welcome to Android Central and the world of rooting! I made the jump about two months ago so I know the feeling. I've heard setcpu is bad news on the fascinate, as it can easily cause overheating and damage the phone. If you want faster there is always the voodoo route, which requires knowledge of flashing through cwm. I've noticed serious improvement with my phone since making the voodoo switch yesterday and love it. Most importantly, feel free to ask tons of questions, the people of this forum are the most helpful i've ever seen!

I've definitely read a lot about voodoo and reading how to flash through cwm... I just haven't made that first step to get my hands dirty through cwm.. :-\

its easy. just follow the rules and you will be fine.

DO NOT overclock. well, you can if you want, but you risk real hardware damage. do you have my pie?

Not much use in Overclocking, however Voodoo is a great way to speed up your phone, its not a great improvement, just feels a bit "Snapier" if thats right? Just do a backup before you flash anything through CWM or you'll end up like me flashing odin every 2 minutes cause you got all excited and skipped a step... or 12.

Molecular what do you use to back everything up? It seems like a lot of people are saying not to use the Titanium Backup.. and that's what I have LOL

So does anyone have some great apps they've ran across? any particular theme that sticks out to you? give me ideas... looks like I'll definitely have to explore voodoo..

I just use the backup feature inside of CWM outside of that they're isn't much use for other backups unless you really do care about your apps and such that much. Alot of times you won't lose your apps when flashing a new Rom, unless you tell it to wipe user data, which I never do which leads to long startup times that first reboot after flashing the new Rom.

With superclean 2.8 I'm using EB01 JAMT Black in post 2 of the Rom/Kernal/Theme list in the stickies. Its got a nice lock screen and the black notification bar is a plus.

As for apps, theres an app for the webpage Evernote, and its really usefull for keeping track of things between platforms and allows you to recall notes better, from school assignments to news reports.

Heres a screenshot of my lockscreen from that theme. Gives you an idea of what it looks like and the notification bar as well.

I have had no issues with titanium backup. You just have to remember when you do your backup to choose backing up all user apps and system data, but then when restoring apps you have to choose restore all missing apps + data. Do not choose all apps, and do not choose any option that restores system data. I have heard a lot of people talking about my backup pro because you can backup your data before you are rooted. Also I just bought my backup pro because unlike titanium backup you can back up everything with just the one app - apps with data, contacts, text messages, etc. Check it out. I already paid for titanium backup pro and ponied up the money for my backup pro because of the differences and the all in on ability.

There is an entire forum dedicated to apps in the main android forums page:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/android-applications/
There is an entire thread here in the Fascinate Rootin, ROMs, and Hacks forum dedicated to themes, and Jaekar99 has done a lot of work to put it together and continues to do a lot of work to maintain it. There is a ton of discussion about themes and which ones people think are the best. It's best to post questions and look for answers about themes there:

A lot of people really do care about their apps and such that much. A lot of people want to save their progress in angry birds and other games. You're right you won't lose your apps when flashing ROMs unless you wipe data. But Adrynalyne is THE expert and he has said when going from one operating system (2.1 aka Eclair, builds DL09 and EA28) to another (2.2 aka Froyo, builds DL30 and EB01) you need to wipe data because you are going to a completely different operating system. I mean you may have just been lucky up to this point, but Adrynalyne is THE man and I have never gone wrong following his advice.

Landshark seems to want to be a moderator, maybe you can take the place of that temp guy :D

Definitely not trying to be a moderator since I wouldn't be able to post and help as much. And I'm trying to be very careful not to come across as a moderator as that is also one of the rules of the AC forums. (Pretty hypocritical to try and help someone out by educating them about the rules of the forum and giving them a link to the rules to help them in case they haven't read the rules, while at the same time breaking one of the forum rules myself) Just trying to do what I can to help keep the forums uncluttered, but more importantly direct people to the threads where I think they can get the most and best help. And I want our temp guy ragnarokx to be our permanent mod. He is working his tail off to clean up the Fascinate forums. There have been several times when I was typing a response to direct someone to a thread where they should post their question, and when I hit Submit Reply and see my response, the original post and my response are already in the thread I was suggesting. :D That guy is super fast. Almost as fast as my SF on sc 2.9. Thanks for all you are doing ragnarokx. And if I get out of line and come across sounding too much like a mod, just slap me around and I'll pull back on the reigns.
