If I purchase an Evo from an individual (NIB) and experience problems, will Sprint handle warranty?

Great question, better yet if I have a friend that bought one and hates it...if i buy it from them can I get the insurance through Sprint on the phone?

question + Bump!!

Hi my name is Adam and I represent Sprint as their SprintCareGuide. Unfortunately you have to buy a Sprint phone at Sprint retailer in order to get warrenty on the phone.

I've bough an epic from BB. I still have their TEP coverage on that phone.

despite what Adam stated, which could be "true" by the book,

i was able to trade my phone for a used Evo, and over the phone--the seller and i swapped ESN's via Sprint rep Customer Service and he immediately enacted my warranty coverage (TEP $7/month) on the device.

you might get better luck going through the phone customer service than taking it into a store. as long as the warranty's showing active, even if the phone customer service enacted the warranty, the Store HAS to honor it. otherwise you're paying for a service that's not being honored--and you could prob BS your way to the manager about calling some news station and getting Sprint a horrible PR campaign in the area.

i bought a used one--noticed light leakage, and the HTC warranty is still able to be used since the manufacturer date is in the phone's data menu---that you can't access unless you know the dialer code.

i bought mine off of Craigslist--searchf or my contribution in the post about "buying evo off craigslist". it'll give you some things to look for and ask.

All things come with a warranty. If sprint won't warranty it htc will. It is not like theses phones can be purchased from anywhere

TEP is not a warranty though. That's a service for which you pay Sprint.

Technically, the warranty is still through HTC for something like the screen just dying. But if you have TEP, whether you bought the phone from them or not, Sprint will just take over and deal with it through HTC for you. Most likely they'll just send an ESN over to HTC, receive a credit, and order a new/refurb phone and ship the busted one off to where ever.

But if you don't have TEP, technically Sprint doesn't have to do anything for you if the phone experience a manufacturer's defect whether you bought it from them or not.

There's a chance that they'll let you add TEP on the spot and take care of it for you, or just take care of it out of the kindness of their hearts, but they aren't obligated to under any agreement.

Like I said in my previous post, I have Sprints TEP on a phone I bought from BB. I NEVER had any problems. You loose it just have a $100 handy.
