Was going to order a pixel 2 but then.....

No, they are about the same. I ran benchmark s on both as well here is the result

Geekbench

Essential single score=1950/multiple score was 6549

pixel2 single score =1950/ multiple = 6602

Performance is very close

Essential is cheaper for sure... But I just have issues trusting a "New" company (regardless of who the founder is). Camera is also a HUGE thing on my list so.. Pixel 2 XL it is.

Nothing beats the pixel camera....nothing.

question for u why are you considering a essential phone but not a one plus 6 because of the notch? Is what the essential phone have not considered a notch to you ?
I was only considering it because of the price. I still think notches are dumb and a stupid design.

Will Essential be here in a year or two? Google will be. Re-sale value of your Pixel will be greater than the Essential. Repairs or warranty? Probably much better at Google. Good luck with your choice. I have a Pixel 2 and love it.

Honestly, sometimes saving some money just isn't worth the aggravations. I had a PH-1 for a while and couldn't stand it. I am on T-Mobile in the Dallas/FT Worth area. Cell signal was noticeably weaker than any other android phone I had tried (and I had tried plenty of them in 2017). Having said that, I didn't have any dropped calls or other noticeable issues with texts. What I did not like about it though was the Bluetooth. Maybe I had a bad unit but I had awful Bluetooth connection issues, from sudden drop outs to sound breaking up, fading in and out, almost like the songs were rebuilding themselves. Really odd stuff. Overall it was a buggy OS, and that was after I was greeted to FOUR updates upon booting it up. Give it a go if you are feeling adventurous, but the Pixel is absolutely a better phone and worth the extra money.

This. I've been constantly on a hunt for a good deal on an Android phone for months to try to sway me away from the absolute mockery that the iX makes of my bank account. I've failed miserably, as every single phone I try is missing something. The Essential was on my list, until I saw the camera and the bad cell service. Those are both a no-go for me. Plus, Bluetooth is incredible on Apple devices. Usually haven't had any issues. If it was between the Pixel and Essential, for me, I'd splurge and be more content and worry less about my device.

Well its a done deal, I just ordered a Pixel 2 today! Should see it Monday or Tuesday! Can't wait!

Yeah after reading about some of the PH-1 issues I just didn't dare risk it. I also briefly looked at the V30 but I'm already on a G6 so while the V30 reviews are pretty stellar, Its just a different version of what I have.

Thanks everyone for all the input!

Ha the v30 has problems too. Really bad screens. You made the right choice with the Pixel

So, the essential phone is on sale at Best Buy today for $450 plus a $25 gift card. Apparently the camera app has improved significantly, not pixel levels but its solid. With it being unlocked and clean android and now on 8.1, is it worth a try? I really want the google experience but for a 64GB Pixel 2 with Preferred Care I'm looking at over $800. I could save over $300 getting an Essential phone (PH-1) and get double the storage to boot with a great screen. I want a good camera but I'm wondering if it is good enough for $300 less.

Does anybody have both or have recent experience with both?

I loved the essential phone. Camera is ok prob s7 quality so not too bad. The build quality on that phone is amazing. Worth trying out for sure. I got rid of mine bc they're wasn't any freaking cases for it when I bought it and there's very few now.

Hope you have as much enjoyment as I'm having with my pixel 2 XL! Switched last week from a note 8 and couldn't be happier.

Thanks! I'll let you guys know. I have been saddled with carrier phones for years and feel like I've finally broke free and the phone hasn't even arrived yet lol!

I've had a Pixel 2 XL since it was released and this Pixel is the best one yet. I'll be looking forward to more of your input after you get it!

As did I, really happy and content with the PXL2. Great phone, great screen and absolutely STELLAR camera.

Received my 2XL yesterday. It definitely has the blue shift thing going on, but maybe not so surprising to many, it doesn't bother me unless I'm staring at a blank white page. Otherwise, I don't notice it. After some time with the baby pixel 2 and iPhone X, I need to re-adjust to the larger size. We'll see how that goes. My eyes definitely appreciate the extra screen size. (Getting old sucks)

I kinda wanted the big one, but the screen issue concerned me and my budget was tight anyway so I couldn't justify taking the chance for the extra $200. That said I'm looking forward to the size of the regular P2 as it's just a smidge smaller than my G6 and is a good size. However I'm kinda bummed about the screen to body ratio but if everything works as advertised it's a minor compromise for the great software experience, updates and phenomenal camera. I can't wait to use it!
